Nose: Grassy and clean with fresh mint and citrus up front. Cooked agave comes through steadily, joined by a touch of honey and a light trace of oak that adds depth without overshadowing the freshness. Balanced and inviting. Palate & Mouthfeel: A mix of cooked and raw agave sets the tone. Oak and caramel bring warmth and structure, balanced by bright citrus and a dusting of cinnamon. Notes of hay and earth sit just beneath the surface. Medium mouthfeel with a gentle grip. Finish: Cinnamon lingers and leaves a soft, tingling warmth across the palate. Final Thoughts: Old school agave just hits different- subtle, natural, and grounded. There’s nothing flashy here, and that’s exactly the point. It’s a quiet reminder of how good tequila can be when it doesn’t try too hard.

Viscous and delicious. Oily and silky mouth feel. It has a pronounced honeysuckle and orange blossom aroma with cooked agave and a bit of spice. Palate is a pleasant agave, melon, tellicherry peppercorn, slightly cinnamon-y heat. I enjoy this reposado because the aging just doesn’t “smooth it out.” It maintains the heat and agave while imparting the beauty of the barrel, without forcing anything.

The earthy goodness of the Don Modesto blanco continues into the reposado, as they are clearly related. The addition of wood here brings hints of raisin and butter. It tastes of cooked agave and slight vanilla, and has a subtle, gentle, yet spicy, delicate finish. Thumbs up.

Color is a deep straw/amber. This is probably an older repo, or was in a barrel with a deep char. (7 months, American Oak, used whiskey, deep char) The legs are huge—super thick with slow tears, like a thin syrup. There are no pearls that hang. The glass remains coated. A bit of alcohol sharpness on the nose but significant agave notes predominate, followed by barrel notes. The agave notes consist of fresh green beans, cooked agave/brown sugar, and orange blossom, with hints of banana, green pineapple, anise, white pepper and mint (Amatitan, single-estate agave). The barrel notes are fairly straightforward whiskey and oak, with hints of vanilla, but toward the bottom of the glass, it gets just slightly smoky, probably from a deeper char on the barrels. Entry is oily and spicy with a hint of sweetness. The pepper sensation lights up right away and remains long into the finish. Indeed, I focus more on the pepper/spice sensation than I do on the flavors. The palate remains slightly oily. I also get some minerality along with tannins from the barrel and some light citrus from the agave. The finish is smooth in that there is no burn going down, but the palate remains lit up with pepper/spice for a while.

Lost points on the nose but makes up in taste. Some honey and oak on the mid palate and mild heat finish with hints of whiskey/barrel. Not much agave coming through for me.

A very good Reposado - I would say the best of the Don Modesto line up.
