Heavy barrel notes fill the aroma. A little surprising for a repo. Cedar and pine are very noticeable with just a little caramel and vanilla. The flavor is dominated by spice and heat - both peppery and baking spices. However there is something subtle beneath the spice that tones it down a bit. I am curious about the wine barrels used for aging and whether the subtle fruit sweetness comes from those barrels. The finish is relatively short. This one seems to have a lot of potential but ultimately comes up short. 11-10-2018
