Agave Matchmaker Blind Tasting: Aroma: buttery, cooked, agave, honey, clove, oregano. A nice nose smells fresh. Palate: peppermint, anise, almost a candy/mint flavor, hints of clove…interesting Finish: clean, little to no burn. A nice peppery finish.
Rated blind with AMM: Buttery aroma with a hint of grass. Flavors dive deeper into the green notes with some jalapeño and spicy mint. Creamy mouth but a short overall finish.
At the distillery, I sipped and found A spirit much like Cuarenta’s round, Yet here the tahona takes the lead, Not the roller mill—tradition’s seed. Aromas rise: earth, minerals, zest, Cooked agave, orange—nature’s best. On the tongue, a warming ride: Agave, pepper, minerals collide, Cinnamon whispers, butter glides, A medium-long finish, where flavor abides. Yet value weighs on every pour— Some tahona bottles offer more.
Sipped this at the distillery, herbal notes, with some nice minerality. Respectable blanco with light citrus and some cooked agave. Medium finish.
revisited with TMM blinds oct 2025 and gave it an 81. so i'm bumping up slightly Nov 14 2024 At distillery with valerie saucedo Trujillo Tahona 40 abv % tahona? mineral and herbal A little fizz and bitter on finish Yeast on finish High 70s
First tasted in 2024, scored at 79. TMM blind (10/25): Aroma has an astringent quality that lessens as it opens up, but is still not desirable. Taste lacks agave, and has some heat, but no distinctive flavors, and left me with bitterness on the palate.
Prefer the Roller Mill blanco over this Tahona expression.
N- agave, brine, black pepper, hay, herbs, mint T- Cooked agave, brine, black pepper, plum, mint MF- medium F- Medium in length and finishes very clean
Aroma: Orange blossom up front, a definite sweetness on the aroma, with some minerality, very light overall. Flavor: Light citrus, some herbal notes, basil mainly. An earthy, vegetal profile as well, quite different from the aroma, with a pleasantly smooth mouthfeel. Finish: Vegetal and herbal black pepper notes that remain for a decent length of time but can become slightly bitter.
Aroma/Taste: This tequila has an interesting mix of earthy aromas like mushrooms and yeast, along with dill, tobacco, and a bit of citrus from lime and orange peel. I also picked up some floral notes, like roses and marigolds. On the taste side, there's anise and mint, sweet cooked agave, and a bit of jalapeño and black tea, with a nice black pepper kick. Finish: The finish is spicy and a little harsher than I’d like. Overall: Tasted blind, I liked the smell more than the taste, and the taste more than the finish. It wasn’t my favorite of the group, but it’s got some unique qualities.
Nose: mineral/ vegetal / earth / hint of pear / lime / bell pepper/ hint of tea / hint of lavender / faint alcohol Taste: sweet cooked agave / hint of cinnamon/ anise / banana/ apple / lime/ spearmint/ tea/ tiniest hint of tobacco / cream soda Finish: a very wet and watery finish/ lingering mild agave sweetness/ lingering pepper/tobacco/ and earthiness This blanco has a nice mild sweetness that works with the light pepper notes on the palate. There’s nothing specifically bold here….just some good working palate notes; unfortunately this blanco has a very weak nose.
Nose- agave, citrus little alcohol Taste- very light with agave, citrus and pepper up front anise in the middle
The smell of agave is followed by malolactic funk, celery, herbs, pepper, and earth. Taste is agave forward that leads to lime, honeydew, light funk and pepper. Finishes with a light mouth feel with a cinnamon type of heat.
A bit acrid on the nose, burnt vegetation. Sweet on entry, more so than several other samples. This develops in the mouth to a full on buzz bomb with tongue tingling and lip numbing, a whole mouth sensory experience.
"Big" fruity Aroma - strawberries and even figs on the nose and whiff of eucalyptus. That fruity aroma carried thru in the taste with a delicate sweetness but not overpowering. Finish wonderfully lingered and left wanting more.
L1K0B40TT-004, acquired recently, tasted on 7-6-25. Aroma: light cooked agave with a hint of brine, light green vegetal notes, light acidity, hint of citrus, after 20 minutes in the glass the cooked agave note becomes sweeter. Palate: confirms aromas perceived, quite mineral, hint of bitterness and minerality through my retronasal. Finish is medium to medium long, hint of cooked agave, hint of brine with hint of green vegetal notes persists.
Lots of vegetal agave! Light citrus and pepper!
Beware the inflated community score based on all the single-rating 100 reviews. Love the nose. Cooked agave, minerality, vegetalness. Flavors are cooked agave, minerality, floral, fruity.
I enjoyed the flavor and the production which is 100% tahona and brick oven cooked. Herbal taste and a clean finish.
Earthy
Trujillo Tahona stands out as a masterpiece of artisanal craftsmanship. The use of the tahona stone in its production creates a flavor profile that is unmatched—earthy, rich, and full-bodied. For me, this tequila captures the essence of traditional methods, offering a unique taste that takes you back to the roots of tequila-making. It's perfect for connoisseurs who appreciate heritage in every sip.
