Super sweet in the aroma and taste. Still waiting to find out if it's addative free?
This tequila has a unique aroma that is different than most Blancos. I find the nose heavy on alcohol. The wet cement and earthiness overpowers the citrus and pepper. The pepper and alcohol are quite heavy on the tongue. For a tequila advertised as additive-free, I don't consider it a good sipper. It worked fine in a margarita.
The aroma has some unique properties. There is heavy alcohol and a wet cement and earthiness to the odour. I find the pepper and citrus is overpowered by the other characteristics. The black pepper really kicks in on the tongue as does the alcohol. As a tequila advertised as additive-free, I find it underwhelming and not a good sipper. Worked fine in a margarita.
The name Espéralo can be translated to "Wait for Him" which is part of the brands story. The brand is owned by the Nuñez Family. The same family that founded the El Viejito Distillery in 1937 near Atotonilco. The distillery is now run by the great-grandson of the founder, Don Indalecio Núñez Muro. Juan Eduardo Núñez is at the helm and making good tequila. Espéralo is imported by the PKGD Group. The pricing of Espéralo makes another additve free option in the budget category. The Blanco is priced around $25 and the Reposado at $28. The production begins with the harvesting of ripe Agaves that are then cooked in traditional Stone/Brick Ovens. Once cooled the Agaves are macerated by Roller Mills with Deep Well Water being added. Collected juices are then Fermented in Closed Stainless Steel Tanks. The Fermented Mosto is then twice Distilled in Stainless/Copper Hybrid Pot Stills. Before bottling it is Proofed down to 40 ABV. Aroma: A lighter Cooked Agave note is present. Coming from el Viejito, the Vegetal notes are front and center along with an Earthiness. An identifiable Lime Citrus aroma is very present. A slight touch of Cinnamon adds some spice. There is a touch of Mint. And at the end, a creamy Butter note pops out. Taste: Sweet Cooked Agave and Lime right out the gates! Cinnamon and White Pepper offer a nice Spiciness. Once you get through the beginning the familiar distillery notes of Vegetal, Herbal, and Earth are here. There are a light sweet Fruity and Floral flavors. Finish: The Cinnamon and White Pepper flavors hang on for a long run. Overall this is another budget offering worth checking out. While this isn't the most complex profile it is good. TMM--83 Salud!
