Until recently, we hadn’t cared much for reposado — tequila that has been aged in oak barrels from 2 to 12 months. It seems too middle-of-the-road: like blanco (no barrel aging) without the bite, añejo (aged for longer than a year) without the flavor. But

NOM 1609 | Bottle: L331201001, 528, 21:34 Appearance: Apple juice Nose: Cake batter, vanilla, fake fruit, banana, caramel, artificial sweetener, alcohol, butter, medicinal, and light oak…artificial and sweet Palate: Astringent, artificial sweetener, fake fruit, maple syrup substitute, alcohol, butterscotch, cake batter, coconut, medicinal, and oak…not enjoyable Finish: Artificial sweetener, alcohol, astringent, and cream soda…thick, viscous mouthfeel that lasts far too long Overall: I like many of the flavors that are present here. However, they pale in comparison to the aspartame-esque super sweetness nor the underlying harshness of the distillate. Again, I’m happy that I got to try it. And now I know. I couldn’t even finish the pour, it went in the sink.
