Nose: Bright and layered at first pass - cooked agave wrapped in a vinous sweetness, giving way to tropical fruit tones that lean toward pineapple and ripe pear. Oak and vanilla add a gentle warmth underneath, while baking spice brings a subtle reminder of its time in barrel. The nose feels expressive and dessert like, though not heavy. Palate & Mouthfeel: Lighter in texture than the nose suggests. It’s medium-thin, almost watery, with tannins showing up early. The sweetness fades quicker than expected, replaced by oak and white pepper that add structure but also a bit of dryness. Agave stays present throughout, while baking spice and banana peek through toward the end. Finish: Dry and spice driven, with vanilla turning more savory than sweet. A faint oak bitterness closes things out, leaving a clean but slightly astringent impression. Final Thoughts: The nose hints at a deeper rum influenced sweetness that never fully materializes on the palate. While balanced enough, the oak and tannin lean a bit heavy, muting the fruit and warmth promised up front. Pleasant, but it leaves you wishing for more of that aromatic charm to carry through.
Wild honey on the nose. Sweet caramel and vanilla. This smells very sweet It is sweet on the palate too. I get barrel spice and honey. Vanilla and caramel. Very tasty. May be too sweet for some but if you like a sweet tequila, grab this one
Ensueno repo carribean rum Gets better as it opens Nose Tropical fruit, banana, mild brown sugar and orange spice Palate vanilla agave tropical fruits I like it. Nice easy sipper. Would be great in a mai tai or other tropical drinks I like rum bit dont often drink it. I'm really liking this thank u to Jeff Broitman for the sample
Little heat on the front that makes the flavor flow throughout. Nice caramel, grilled pineapple, some oak and little pepper
Nose - cooked agave, spiced barrel notes, dried fruit, and caramel Palate - cooked agave, spice, oak Finish - long cooked agave finish, lacking heat on the end
Very unique blend of barrel and cooked agave, limited release, balanced and interesting flavor profile
Nose is bright, floral agave, some cotton candy notes, light caramel even, very similar to the blanco, so very nice. On the pallet butter cream agave at first, then a beautiful pepper spice, i assume partially from the rum cask, and the finish is more of a sweet/pepper mix, almost like a lemon pepper almost which is a carribean spice, all in all a very nice tequila, definite buy if you see it.
Aroma: cooked agave, apple, cinnamon, vanilla, oak, earth, toffee, salinity, black pepper. Flavor: oak, tobacco, apple, raisin, cooked agave, earth, black pepper. Finish lingers but doesn’t overwhelm and there’s a nice warmth but it doesn’t drink hot or burn. Texture is soft but present.
Incredibly delicious. This beckons sip after sip. Nuts, cinnamon, a little char on the nose. Flavors of cooked agave, eucalyptus, and burnt sugar. Super balanced and the rum casks give this an unusual zing that’s really memorable. Terrific effort for their first-ever reposado.
I had the privilege of tasting this alongside Matt Robertson & JP Diz on prerelease. This single barrel Reposado threw me for a loop, especially tasting it alongside Ensueño’s barrel rested blancos. On the nose I found tobacco, molasses, overripe pineapple, citrus rine, a strange syrupy thing I could not put my finger on and cooked agave. On the palate I found some barrel spice, cooked tropical fruits, coconut copra, light minerality, fresh orange, rich vanilla, burnt sugars with subtle notes of cut grass & herbs. The finish brought about more caramelized sugars and black pepper with hints of brine. The complexity of flavors within this single barrel along with its stunning aroma make this my favorite Ensueño release to date. In the past I’ve appreciated Ensueño’s unique approach to barrel resting their blancos. Staying true to the spirit of a great highlands blanco, while lightly influencing the profile with unmistakeable bourbon characteristics. For their debut Reposado release, I was pleased to find that Ensueño kept that same agave forward montra while throwing a new aged profile into the mix. Instead of ex-Weller barrels, this Reposado is aged exclusively in ex-Appleton rum barrels and the difference, of course, is night and day.
Received from Agave Swappers Aroma: agave front and center, along with some barrel notes. I definitely couldn’t tell you from the Jose alone it was aged in rum casks, but there is definitely something different than the usual whiskey/bourbon barrel notes. Quite pleasant. Definitely pick up the pepper notes and maybe some of the cane sugar from the rum (I think that’s what rum is made from anyway). Taste: surprisingly dry and well balanced. Agave is still present, along with fruit, pepper, and maybe a hint of molasses. The rum casks definitely add a unique twist that I enjoy. Overall: I dig it. I’ve seen them in the $80 range, so a little pricey, but it’s unique and pleasant.
Agave Swap Nose: caramel, toffee, citrus, green apple, cooked agave, vanilla, oak, pineapple? Taste: cooked agave, white pepper, apple Finish: caramel apple, oak, white pepper, slight vanilla Very interesting, the nose sets you up for the experience and the taste and finish are a roller coaster experience. These rum barrel aged tequilas are always a hit for me
My brother Jordan and I were blessed to receive a bottle of the new Ensueño Caribbean Rum Rested Repo. Ensueño has always been one of our favorite brands with their 4 batch releases of their blanco in Ex - Weller 12 Barrels. Crazy what a different amount of days rested can influence on an expression within days of each other! Now they have released this ex Appleton barrel Repo… and lord have mercy Ensueño has done it again. Obviously very different from their blanco due to barrel influence. Nose: Minerality, tropical fruits, char / burnt smell to it can’t put my finger on it. Taste: Minerality, tropical fruits, cooked sugars, vanilla, barrel spices like a rum! So good, ensueño is so unique and continue to change the game!
Batch 2 Barrel #1. So delicious. The rum Barrel makes the Agave so sweet, but still Agave foward.
