North Texas Tequila Club Private Barrel | Cascahuin repo NTTC sib 43 abv, aged 6 mos in french oak Darker in color than OTT sib Nose: caramel, vanilla, maple syrup and tropical fruit (bananas?) Palate: sweet barrel spices and an earthy flavor and unami Finish: dry
Old Town Tequila Private Barrel | Cascahuin repo OTT sib 42abv I don't have the aging information (e.g. what type of barrels and length of time in barrel), but based on the color, which is very light, I assume either: A) they used very exhausted barrels or B) it wasnt aged very long. Nose: fruity and floral, barrel spices and anise Palate: sweet cooked agave shines through with minerality, barrel spices Finish: sweet and peppery. it seems to fade out then come back around. Overall: this is an easy sipper. i very much enjoyed it.
Trevor’s Liquor Private Barrel (Arizona market) Aged in American Oak for 6 months 44% ABV This was a very enjoyable reposado. Solid character, great balance, and a nice showcase of agave with a touch of barrel influence. You can tell it was thoughtfully selected. On the nose, cooked agave leads the way, followed by smooth vanilla and light oak. There’s a touch of caramel sweetness, a pop of citrus, and a grounded earthiness that gives it some rustic charm. Black pepper adds a little kick, and there’s a nice herbal note in the background that rounds things out. On the palate, the agave is rich and well-integrated with the barrel notes. Oak and vanilla come through clearly, balanced by caramel and black pepper. There’s a touch of earthiness that keeps it grounded, with hints of anise and herbal complexity adding a nice layer of depth. The minerality on the finish gives it a clean, dry end that lingers nicely. Overall, this single barrel hits that sweet spot between tradition and barrel influence. It’s layered without being heavy, and still feels very true to the Cascahuin profile. Definitely one of those bottles that keeps you coming back for another sip.
Total Wine & More Private Barrel | 44% abv: The aroma opens with a blend of minerality, honey, lime citrus, and a stinging ethyl edge softened by a subtle wood tone. On the palate, soft honey and caramel unfold gently, followed by vanilla, mint, baking spice, and a distinct pepper note, complemented by a faint floral note. A layer of buttered toast emerges, accompanied by earthy petrichor. The finish is swift and silky. Vanilla and wood notes taper off into a lingering blend of baking spice, clinging black pepper, and earthiness. *At the driest point, several minutes later, I get airy brininess stuck on the palate. A great example of the influence of French Oak. Bravo
44% ABV
Total Wine & More Private Barrel | I’m a big fan of Cascahuin’s house style. Earthy, rustic, slightly vegetal, and occasionally a lactic note peeps its head out. This repo had all of this, plus the subtle barrel influence you’d expect from a 9 month ex-bourbon oak aged valley tequila. My single barrel came in at 45%, and the finish along with the intensity of flavors benefited from the proof bump. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it… A fun treat 200th review! Grateful to be a part of this wonderful community of agave aficionados. 7 years and counting!
Cascahuín’s House of Rare collab is special—cooked agave that shines through, oak, vanilla. Silky clean finish with a little heat. A distillery-only treasure.
House of Rare
NY Market Private Barrel | Sample via Agave Swappers. Nose: Cooked agave, tons of fruit which almost smells like citrus and pear or apple, vanilla, and a hint of oak. Flavor: Cooked agave, more oak than the nose, vanilla, a bit smokey and earthy, black pepper, and some of the fruit comes through as well. Finish: Quite long and coats the mouth. It starts out peppery, then some of the fruitiness can be detected while the pepper fades. Overall: This is a really nice tequila. The nose is a bit subdued to me, but there are tons of subtle aromas to pick up on. The flavor is also very complex with quite a bit more barrel notes than I anticipated based on the smell.
Aroma is dominated by earthy, cooked agave and caramel. Delicious flavor of cooked agave and vanilla, goes down smooth. A very smooth finish with a runny a tiny bit of heat. one of my favorites.
NY Market Private Barrel | Cascahuin Reposado Private Barrel is a beautifully crafted pour that highlights the sweeter side of well-aged agave. The nose is rich with sweet caramel, vanilla, and subtle oak, giving it an inviting, dessert-like aroma. On the palate, it delivers much of the same. Caramel-forward with layers of cooked agave, a hint of spice, and a balanced finish that lingers. It’s a great pour and a solid representation of Cascahuin’s quality, but considering the price and exclusivity, there are plenty of other options out there that offer a comparable experience without the premium. Sample provided by the Agave Swappers Facebook group.

NY Market Private Barrel | Nose: Right off the bat, there’s that unmistakable cooked agave. Caramel and vanilla follow with a soft sweetness, and if you lean in, you’ll catch some delicate white flowers in the background. A little black pepper and a pop of citrus keep it bright. Palate & Mouthfeel: It’s light and smooth on the tongue, but it doesn’t waste time - agave hits first, then black pepper shows up right on its heels. There’s a subtle oakiness underneath, with caramel and vanilla adding some warmth. Hints of orange and fresh cut grass bring a fresh, almost springlike edge. Finish: The finish is warm and lingers nicely. You get that cooked agave again, paired with soft oak notes, and just a touch of background cinnamon spice to round it out. Final Thoughts: Clean, flavorful, and easy to enjoy, this reposado stands out. It’s got character without being overdone, and it really lets the agave shine. A solid sipper that feels a little bit special.
