“The key to tasting this is to let it open up for a bit. At first I thought it was a bit linear and one dimensional, but after it hit oxygen, it started to develop. I had lime leaves , honey suckle and the rawness of asparagus on the nose. Very floral and earthy. The palate was a bit shallow for my taste - I like a blanco to punch me in the mouth and this was really gentle - almost too silky. But the star of the show is the finish. It’s a mineral/pepper (black and white) punch that lingers for days. I have to say, I’m pleasantly surprised.”

“Well, i mean, it’s delicious. It’s one of the most complex tequilas i have had and i love the depth. Flavors and notes go on and on. Nariz: Oak, melted butter, caramel, butterscotch, chocolate, dried cherries. Boca: Dried fruit, toasted nuts, brown sugar, honey. I love the layers of complexity of German’s tequila. The price is commensurate with the juice.”

“This 6 year XA will give off an amazing aroma of melted butter, roasted nuts and dark chocolate covered cherries - with plumb and apricots. The palate will greet you with barrel oak, but will maintain steamed agave. This is very hard to accomplish with a 6 year XA. Somehow they made it work. It has a sweet, brown sugar finish. Although it comes in a crystal, handmade decanter, the price is still commensurate with the juice. I found this to exceed my expectations.”

“Appearance: crystal clear with thin, slow tears yet a viscous mouthfeel. Aroma: mineral forward with unripe agave. Vegetal - reminiscent of raw broccoli and cauliflower and under-mature pea pods. Palate: initially hot. Lots of white and black pepper, respectively. Notes of lemon leaves and lime leaves. Not a ton of agave present. Finish: It’s long with a piney, sappy, bitter finish. Like pine needles. At 40%, it presented “hot” and the natural notes of the process didn’t seem to shine through here.”

“It has that familiar aroma that i can’t quite put my finger on, but its like Olmeca Altos. It dominates the nose. Its a very sweet smell, like marshmellows. On the palate, i do get steamed agave, but its after the cinnamon. Think Red Hots. Its not that i don’t like this, its just not tickling my tequila-snobbery fancy. And to be fair - i LOVE this distillery. Tequila 1,2,3, El Luchador (!), Don Abraham, Los Alamos, Diablito XA (whaaaat?). I guess i just had higher expectations. Still good, but not quite there for this palate.”

“This is a celebrity tequila from Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. I know he spent a lot of time with this endeavor so props to him for that. What we know is that they use los altos agaves and distilled in Jesus Maria. The label states that it is cooked in hornos and distilled in copper pots, but that’s all we know. There is some nutritional information that is true to most tequilas. The nose is strong (like The Rock) and had raw agave, white and black pepper, citrus, alcohol, green vegetables such as raw broccoli, minerals, slight smoke and mint. The taste was not what i expected based on the smell - not necessarily in a bad way. It coated the mouth very nicely and was vegetal (green/uncooked), spicy, peppery (black) and had a sweet corn taste. It was a little hot. There is something in there that is just slightly “off” and i can’t put my finger on it. Maybe something in the fermentation process. The yeast seems unnatural or something. Just my first impression. For the price ($27 while visiting in Massachusetts), it’s a good buy. Not sure if it would be a midweek sipper like a Fortaleza or Ocho, but we finished the bottle nonetheless. ”
