Tasted at Monterey 2025

A little underwhelming from aroma to finish. I was really hoping this was a home run. Sorry Enrique it’s a little boring.

Tasted alongside Rey Sol, and the two couldn’t be any more different. Amazingly, this extra anejo’s profile showcased cooked agave even after 9 years of aging. The complexity within this tequila is my favorite aspect. Dried fruits, raisin, berries, cooked agave, stone fruits, barrel spice and much more. Long finish.

my rating is based on the first lote... the 7yr is my favorite of the fuenteseca expressions. had my first flight of fuenteseca at cantina mayahuel in San Diego 2014?2015? - 7yr, 9yr, 12 yr. the 7yr was the best of all, in my opinion, and compared to the rest of the line, best value. looked at my old notes = 7yr "tears-like", 9yr more oaky, lost some sweetness. it was good but more expensive than 7yr and not as good, in my opinion.

Very strong and complex aroma. I get strong notes of cherry and oak but there's also an earthy quality to it (clay). The flavor, as to be expected, is very oaky. But, it also has a very strong black pepper note. The finish is very tannic with subtle notes of caramel and cherry.

UPDATED 12/24/2024: Tasting new 2011 9-year side-by-side with previously rated 2003 9-year. The two different bottles have noticeable similarities. The earth/clay aroma in the 2003 definitely shows up in the 2011 again. The 2003 has more of the dried fruit than the 2011. The 2011 has more cooked agave. Both have a good peppery spice in the opening flavor. I don’t notice the tannins mentioned in the 2018 review in either one this time. Warm, spicy finish is moderate to long on both. I will adjust the finish up a bit on the rating. I would say these two are very similar and I would rate them nearly identically. Note: the 2003 bottle is just over ½ full and has been stored in a parafilmed bottle since 2018. I am always curious how long-term storage like this may affect flavor and aroma. 2024 Annual XA Tasting 12/24/2024 UPDATED 12/24/2018: Aroma of dried fruit with a slight earth/clay note. Flavor is filled with black pepper spice Major black pepper along with a little spicy peppermint. This one also has a distinct tannic expression with a notable bitterness at the finish. 9 años cosecha 2011, 42.3% abv. versión, bottle CBB0000, tasted on 7-30-24 at the Tequileña’s Don Fulano social club. Color: yellow. Aroma: light cooked agave, light acidity, hint of citrus, light wood note, light white pepper, hint of beer effervescence, barley. Palate: confirms aromas perceived, beer effervescence balanced with wood note helps the wood note to not become too intense nor astringent, good sweet sour and acidic balance. Finish is medium to long, hint of cooked agave, barley, beer effervescence with light fruity notes persist.

Vanilla bomb on the nose. caramel hits the palate first and oak quickly follows. Light on the pallete
