NOM 1465 - Light amber in the glass. Aromas of cooked agave, caramel, oak, citrus, cinnamon and alcohol. Flavors of cooked agave, black pepper, caramel, oak and cinnamon. Medium finish.
Nose: Agave comes through first, grounded by an earthy, salty clay note that gives it weight. Herbal tones sit just behind that, with black pepper adding edge. A soft floral lift of honeysuckle rounds things out without pushing it sweet. Palate & Mouthfeel: Agave lands cleanly, followed by black pepper that gradually builds rather than hitting all at once. Jalapeño warmth rises slowly but with intensity. That earthy, saline clay note returns and anchors the palate, joined by touches of honeysuckle, and a light minty freshness that keeps it from feeling heavy. The mouthfeel is steady and coating without excess. Finish: Peppery spice lingers and spreads, coating the mouth with warmth and a persistent savory edge. Final Thoughts: There’s a lot of pepper heat here, but the clay driven earthiness gives it character and keeps it interesting. I enjoy that mineral, saline quality quite a bit, though a bit more layering and depth would help it open up further and feel more complete.
This brand has some really solid offerings. The Tahona blanco is clean with nothing added. It’s very easy to drink with great earthy minerality. I hope they release this at a higher proof because I tried a sample and it was fantastic. This Tahona is going to be at a great price point which will be a really good introduction to the brand if you’re not familiar.
Lots of cooked agave in the aroma and flavor here. But that's not all. On the nose I am getting earth, black pepper, lime, hay, limestone, and wet cement. This is the classic tahona and fermented-with-fiber profile that I find enjoyable. The flavor has prominent mint and cinnamon, with a tiny bit of white pepper rounding it out. The mouthfeel has a full body and is quite oily, and the finish has a pleasant sweet sensation. Overall this is a nicely crafted product.
