First of all, I am a huge Chamucos fan. I especially love the Diablo at 55 ABV. The Anejo is also a big time favorite of mine. That is why I needed to add the XA to my collection. I bought this from Roadrunner Spirits. This is a new kit that comes in at 44.4 ABV. This is Fuerte my friends and you know I love that! The nose is just crazy good. So sweet with agave, fruit (especially plum), leather, there is cinnamon and vanilla. This nose is so complex there is no telling what you may pull from it. On the palate, the first thing is sweetness. It has a bit of that funkiness but nothing like the diablo. I get sweet potatoes, plum, vanilla and cinnamon. I am also pulling radon and leather. This is a bit pricey but not for an XA. I love it!

Nose: Cooked agave leads the way, backed by a hit of olive brine and a sharp, unmistakable blue cheese funk. There’s a fresh herbal quality underneath it all, with a squeeze of lemon that cuts through the richness and keeps it lively. Palate & Mouthfeel: Thin and a little slick, but the flavor comes through clean. Sweet agave up front, followed by black pepper and that same savory funk - blue cheese again, but more integrated here. There’s a briny salinity running through it that ties everything together without overwhelming the balance. Finish: Lingering spicy black pepper with a clean, crisp exit. It doesn’t overstay its welcome, but it leaves a strong impression. Final Thoughts: The funk on this one may not be for everyone, but it’s absolutely for me. It’s bold, different, and unique in a way that earns its permanent spot on my shelf.

Nose: Buttermilk right off the top that is tangy and creamy - laid over a core of cooked agave. There’s a soft cinnamon warmth, a drizzle of honey, and an oak presence that rounds it out without muting the funk. Palate & Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied with a light oiliness and just enough grip to keep things interesting. Agave is front and center, followed by salted caramel and that same buttermilk note from the nose, leaning malolactic - both yogurty-sour and slightly tart. Cinnamon leads the spice profile, but there’s more going on: clove, maybe a hint of nutmeg. Oak sits in the background, supportive but not dominant. Finish: A touch of drying astringency brings a slight pucker, which plays well against the lingering sweet agave and warm baking spice. It fades slow and savory. Final Thoughts: Find me another like it - there aren’t many. It’s authentic, well made, and confidently unique. I’m here for it.

Solid but not overwhelming. White pepper and a bit of a funky nose. Hints of cooked agave, mint, a bit muted finish

Nose: lactic funk / agave / earth / mineral / light fruit / lime / lemongrass / orange blossom/ Taste: sweet cooked agave / vanilla/ cinnamon/ lactic funk / banana/ apple / melon/ lime/ anise / lemongrass / tea / orange blossom/ hint of baking spices / cream soda Finish: very nice watery wet mouthfeel that becomes very lightly viscous at the back of the palate / lingering sweetness prevails over all other flavor notes….even the lactic. Clean minty taste at the very end. This 55% abv blanco is quite delicious EXCEPT for the lactic scent and taste. As this lactic quality is a desirable effect in lovers of Chamucos, I’ve done my best to disregard that as an ‘error’ and count it as a targeted attribute. The lactic on the nose is strong; its there on the taste, but the rest of the sweetness from agave, the fruits, and the anise outshine the funk to the point where it’s not specifically noticeable. This is a good high proof that may not be enjoyable because of the funk, but if you get through it, this is good juice.

Nose: sweet agave cooked / vanilla/ lactic / vegetal / cinnamon/ butter / apple / hint of lime / hay / hint of sage / nutmeg/ hint of chocolate/ hint of coffee/ Taste: sweet agave cooked / cinnamon/ caramel/ earth / vegetal/ mineral/ vanilla/ pear / apple/ orange / lime / mint / tea / baking spices / chocolate/ molasses/ cream soda Finish: crisp clean watery wet mouthfeel that dissolves quickly / agave, earthiness, and cinnamon spicy notes linger along with slight vegetal and lactic note until the last swallow, but then disappear rapidly This anejo has the lactic funk that the brand is known for…and it also delivers good sweet agave, cinnamon, caramel, and barrel notes that make this tequila well rounded. If you like the lactic funkiness you’ll love this expression.
