This was a special treat! Aromas of orange zest, butterscotch and lots of cooked agave with subtle barrel aging notes. The flavor was very similar to the nose with more pronounced cooked agave with hints of honey and caramel, very reminiscent of El Pandillo aged products. This one comes with a small amount of their 7 year XA blended in which gives it a nice complexity. I’m usually not a fan of fancy bottles or packaging but these coffin boxes are incredible. Definitely pricy but it’s a special bottle.

Price a side, this light style reposado is so well balanced and delicious. Limited 10,000 bt release, like this a lot

The aroma opens with a sharp burst of orange citrus, prominent minerality and earthy tones of hay and wood. Light alcohol laces through, complemented by dried fruit and a caramel sweetness. On the palate, the complexity shines with minerality leading the way, joined by the intriguing nuance of pencil shavings and hay. Cooked agave reveals a raisin essence alongside the sweetness of yellow raisins, earthy undertones, and subtle notes of honey and amaretto. Sarsaparilla, citrus, black cherry and salted butter create a rich counterbalance while still retaining a freshness. The finish lingers gracefully with cooked agave, light alcohol heat, and bright notes of grapefruit and dried tangerine. Salted butter and that cozy warmed black cherry essence persist.

Sample via Agave Swappers Nose: Cooked agave, oak, fruit Flavor: Same notes as the nose at first but then a blast of black pepper that fades into peppermint. Finish: This is a really long finish with heavy peppermint notes lingering for a few minutes. Overall: Wow, this is a really great tequila and I wish I had the kind of disposable income that would justify purchasing it. Since they don't seem to be selling at my local stores (and there are plenty available) maybe I'll wait a couple years for them to show up in the clearance bin. :)

Tequila lite, soft, like a breeze, misty rain water, smooth, delicate, could say watery. Interesting, mineral water, agave, oak, citrus, cinnamon, pepper, but in a very smooth summery lite way. Easy drinker. Not harsh. Not too peppery or too much of a agave edge to it. Really clean smooth finish. Hard to believe that it is 80 proof.

The key to making exceptional bourbon barrel-finished tequilas lies in using well-worn, heavily seasoned barrels—those that are aged and distressed enough to lend deep flavor, aroma, and character without overpowering the tequila with excessive oak or muting the agave notes, as younger barrels often do. Brands like Ocho Widow Jane, El Tesoro Paradiso, and now G4 Reposado Muerto have perfected this delicate balance. The use of heavily used Tennessee Dickel Rye barrels proved to be a smart choice. Unlike the usual G4 rainwater, this expression uses mineral-rich deep well water, enhancing the profile. Felipe Camarena has achieved something special here—blending the minerality of the well water with bourbon warmth, vanilla, and sweetness, all while preserving the integrity of the agave. The intricate 2023 coffin packaging has been swapped for a more streamlined 2024 version with hinges. A true success—and absolutely worth trying.

If this wasn’t so expensive it would be a top tequila on this app. Sweetness, nose, citrus, agave. It’s all there and you get the fancy box!

On the nose oak, cinnamon, and a touch of tobacco. Palate is luxurious and full-bodied, its smooth, velvety texture. Flavors of sweet agave, vanilla, balanced by layers of dried figs, spiced oak, and a gentle hint of pepper. Undertones of honey, dark cocoa, and butterscotch weave through, adding complexity and depth without overpowering the agave.

Heavy notes of butterscotch on the nose. Lighter on the palate, but a burst of gentle flavors, with a full, rounded mouthfeel. Lingering, soft finish. This was amazing.
