All around great. I just ate spicy food and I’m getting a lot of heat and pepper in the taste. The aroma and finish are brilliant. I should try this again away from dinner!

Lagrimas del Valle Blanco La Loma sample from kyle koskey 46 abv michoacán agave This expression really works for me. Some of my favorite things = cascahuin profile, michoacán agave, high-proof, tahona crushed (at least partially), wood fermentation and fern with fibers (partially). my favorite profile = anise, mint, minerality, agave, pepper, spice. Delicious!

The aroma of minerality is unmistakable with agave and subtle sweet potato essence, accompanied by a hint of vanilla, a touch of mint, and a gentle nuttiness with wood undertones. There is a trace of salt, though it never leans into brininess. On the palate, cedar emerges first, distinct and ever-present. Crisp mint and lemongrass follow behind minerality and citrus. The cooked agave is present in scent and taste. A warm, roasted pecan note develops gradually, adding a toasted quality. The finish lingers with lime citrus and a fresh green note, both carried by the persistent minerality. A touch of dryness appears toward the end. “vine, vi, conquisté” should be the motto of this particular release.

Vessel: CT Jarrito Nose: Minerality, Stone Fruit, Agave, Anise, Citrus, Grass Palate: Concrete, Jalapeno, Grass Finish: Agave, Anise, Stonefruit, Herbal, Hay This brand seems to knock it out of the park everytime. I think this might be my favorite Lagrimas Blanco since the Palo Verde. Great addition to the line up! I'm excited to try the Reposado soon

It Sunday! Sipping Sunday!! Happy World Whale Day!!! Tonight’s pour comes from NOM 1123 Tequila Cascahuin, Lagrimas Del Valle “La Loma” Blanco. Altamar Brands partnered with the Rosales family to produce a line of High Proof Blanco and Reposado expressions. The idea behind the brand was to highlight how the terroir of a geographical area impacts the resulting aroma and taste profile of a given Ranch Selection. In 2023, Lagrimas introduced their first batch with Palo Verde with Agaves harvested in 2022. Also, in 2022 Agaves from El Chiqueño were harvested and distilled, which was later released in 2024. Both the Palo Verde and El Chiqueño came from side-by-side fields in Jalisco. In 2024, the El Sabino Ranch expression was released from Agaves also from Jalisco. The Agave Used had an average Brix Level of over 40! Super Ripe and Sweet!!! Now on to the La Loma Ranch. This is where Lagrimas has changed direction and selected Agaves from Villamar, Michoacan at an elevation of 15445 Meters or roughly 5068 Ft. The Cascahuin Distillery also makes El Gran Legado de Vida with Estate Grown Agave from Michoacan. The process for production starts with Don Salvador Rosales Torres selecting the Agave being used for that particular batch being made. From there the Agaves are split and Cogollo is removed before slow cooking in Cascahuin’s Stone/Brick Ovens. After they have been slow cooked and cooled, Agaves are macerated by both Tahona and Roller Mills. Deep well water is added during this process. Fermentation is also done in conjunction with Wood and Stainless Fermentation Tanks, with and without Agave Fibers being added and Natural Open-air Fermentation. When the fermentation is complete it is distilled twice in Stainless Pot Stills with Copper Coil. Aroma: An even mix of Cooked Sweet Agave and Raw Agave blending together. A lot of Orange/Lemon Citrus is also very prevalent. The Vegetal Notes also stick out. Cinnamon and White Pepper add a distinctive Spicy quality to the nose. A light Anise and Herbal are surrounded by a Grassiness. There is a certain amount of Minerality and Earthiness. After roughly 10-15 minutes a Floral and Fruity complexity brings itself a part of the party! Taste: Of the start, a very Sweet Cooked Agave and a mix of Black Pepper and Cinnamon feel like they were fired out of a cannon. The Raw scent from the Aroma makes a presence in the taste. A sweet Orange Citrus gives a lovely acidity. The Minerality of this is so reminiscent of Tequila Cascahuin as a Distillery. There is a slight Vegetal and Herbal that lacks the Anise from the nose. On the end, after all these powerful flavors the Fruity and Floral touches are exposed with a light Earthiness. Finish: A very long Sweet Agave, Pepper/Cinnamon, Mineral rich, and Citrus driven finish, take this from the initial start to its finish! TM--91 Salud! Lagrimas Tequila

Very nice nose of agave, floral notes, ripe fruits, vegetal notes. Citrusy. On the palate sweet cooked agave, minty, vegetal notes, hay. Very pleasant finish. Great viscosity. Very close to Palo Verde and I could pick either as the top for this brand.

Fresh crack of Lágrimas del Valle La Loma Blanco in a Denver & Liely agave glass. On the nose I immediately got a damp mineral quality that reminded me of fresh poured concrete along with freshly cut vegetables and earthy vegetal notes. As it opened up, the minerality became more pronounced while subtle sweetness started to emerge underneath. The palate starts hot and pepper forward at first sip, but quickly begins to soften with time in the glass. The mouthfeel is one of the standout qualities here — oily, thick, and coating across the tongue with a texture that gives the tequila real weight and presence. The finish dries out the mouth slightly in a way that keeps pulling you back for another sip. The pepper, minerals, and earthy notes linger much longer than expected, and with air the tequila becomes noticeably more balanced and integrated. This feels like a very terroir-driven blanco that leans heavily into mineral, vegetal, and textural complexity over overt sweetness.

Wow. Take your time with this one, and you will be rewarded. The extra ABV absolutely works, and I really wish the 46% - 48% range was more popular among producers. The nose brings a strong agave flavor mixed with cinnamon, mint, and a hint of basil and oregano. The palate delivers everything the nose promises, and the added ABV dials the intensity to the perfect amount. The finish is long without overstaying its welcome. The $55-60 price tag is where the score takes a slight hit.

The aromas are bright and layered. Citrus, pine, cinnamon, cooked agave. Very enjoyable to smell. Sweet and zesty cooked lemon flavors lead the way into sweet agave, with a warm or spicy finish. Lágrimas is one of my favorites to pour rn. Such a great job highlighting terroir and the agave that comes with it, not to mention the work they do to extract, ferment and cook these plants. Incredible stuff.

Nose: sweet minerally cinnamon that almost gets tomatoey (in other words…cooked agave), very mild yeasty aloe Vera botanical note. Cane sugar juice. Wet concrete, sweet nopales Palate: damn. This is so good. Sorry back to the notes. Sweet Cardamom, sweetened Earl grey tea/bergamot, Finish: the color grey, a watermelon/cucumber note, wet concrete. Short but wonderful. Overall: I like Cascahuin fine. Wild Common blanco was a great tequila but kind of a let down for me and was quite expensive. Cascahuin Blanco is great tequila too and I like it more than Wild Common blanco but still feels too expensive at $45-$50 here in Austin. This bottle though is amazing. Work of art Valle tequila and for me is the first from NOM1123 that really did the trick.

This is one of the best blancos I’ve ever had, which isn’t surprising coming out of 1123. It’s an absolute agave bomb, with tons of additional character and complexity. I had previously thought that the El Sabino harvest was my favorite single-origin from Lágrimas, but after having a few glasses of this, La Loma has more nuance to it in a way that’s incredibly appealing.

Nose: Butter cream, with whiffs of cinnamon, melon and a raw agave. Initial palate: creamy cooked agave that blankets the tongue with a rich viscous mouthfeel. Finish: Cooked agave tapers into a more raw fruit/agave finish, with a subtle astringency that builds, into a strong unripe fruit (mango?) crescendo, but not sense at all of being overproof.

I am a huge fan of the La Loma repo but the plata ain’t for me. I’m trying to like it but something is just off. The aroma is wonderful I’ll say. There’s some sweetness there that fades into something undesirable to me. Doesn’t make a good margarita either. My last tequila run I got this and fortaleza repo and I’m not impressed with either. I’ll keep sipping on them tho, may up the score later.
