Single Barrel #30 Nose: A deep, enveloping warmth rolls out immediately - oak, leather, and cooked agave forming the base of something nostalgic and comforting. Notes of sherry, vanilla, and caramel drift through, joined by dark stone fruit. It’s the kind of aroma that feels lived in, evoking a winter night at your grandparents’ house - fire glowing, the faint crack of nutshells, and time slowing down. Palate & Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and slick on entry, it opens with a satisfying hit of smoke that’s not overdone, but layered and integrated. Charred barrel and cinnamon mingle with dried stone fruits, black pepper, and a gentle tannic pull that adds structure. There’s a buttery edge here too with vanilla and salted butter rounding things off, giving warmth and balance to the darker, drier elements. Finish: Sweet, smoky, and spicy, carrying the memory of that char and caramel into a slow fade. Final Thoughts: This is a single malt lover’s tequila. It’s rich, smoky, and contemplative. A spirit built for cold nights and quiet company. Middle of winter agave that warms the soul, and I love it.
Smoke, citrus, agave, lime, plum, a sour top note with pitted fruit and spice (nutmeg?) aromas make this the closest thing to a “pechuga” mezcal that I’ve tried. The flavor has a ton of agave and the finish lasts for a LONG time. This is a product the bridges the gap between tequila and mezcal, so if you’re looking for something neutral, this ain’t it. Otherwise, get ready for an adventure that will make you think twice about what an agave spirit is all about.
Amatiteña blanco lote 2 - 42abv Sample from Brad Ruppel Agave Swappers Nose: nice, smoke, mint, minerality, pepper and some earthiness. Palate: agave, smoke and pepper are the predominant flavors im getting Finish: smoke and pepper with some nice heat Overall: nice sipper. Im not usually a fan of smoke. But Amatitena does a good job with it
Whoa, lots of interesting things going on here. This is a fun XA. Butter caramel, cinnamon, oak, cherry dried fruit, orange, peel, leather, tobacco, and smoke are all present in the aroma. Super complex. Dried fruit, cherry, leather and caramel are in the flavor. The finish is buttery, smoky, and leathery. This is definitely a unique extra añejo.
