The brand is owned by Brothers Seth and Zac Longaker. Back in 1997, together they launched the company oddball. Oddball was geared for guys with bigger feet. They turned a personal frustration into a successful business. With a passion for looking for new and innovative ideas they found themselves going down an unexpected path. Their college years in San Diego led to many trips across the US/Mexico Border. These trips began an appreciation for the people, culture, and legendary spirits! On a business trip a several years later to Leon, Guanajuato looking for artisans to craft a handmade leather footwear line for oddball.com. They found themselves on a rooftop café relaxing and exchanging stories with a tequila connoisseur. Seth and Zac sampled several tequilas. From that evening a fascination with the spirit eventually led to the Highlands of Jalisco. With this newfound inspiration, Seth and Zac wanted to start a tequila brand. Their journey took them around distilleries, farms, and estates searching for that perfect partnership. They eventually found their place, Hacienda La Esperanza in Jesús María. The distillery is now known as Hacienda El Olvido. They met the Lôpez sisters and their Mother, the matriarchs of a small but passionate family run distillery. A bond was formed over meals, laughter, and of course tequila! The generational knowledge and core commitment to craft quality tequila are what became the foundations for Acre Largo Tequila. Production for Acre Largo begins with the selection of ripe agaves from the 3000 acre estate. Once harvested the piñas are slow cooked in Stone/Brick Ovens. After cooling, the cooked piñas are macerated with Roller Mills and natural spring water is added. The juices are fermented in open-air Stainless Steel Tanks with Wild Yeasts. When fermentation is complete, the mosto is distilled twice in Copper Pot Stills before resting in Stainless Steel Tanks. Aroma: Super Sweet Cooked Agave mixes with a faint touch of Vanilla. Not in an artificial way, but present. A nice Cinnamon note. A Citrus note that is definitely Lime on the scent. The Minerality shines through. There are identifiable Fruity notes of Banana and a hint of Pear. Light touches of Spearmint and Anise mix with Grass. And as this finishes a Graham Cracker scent was picked up. Taste: Sweet Cooked Agave begins the shower with that faint Vanilla touch. A Grassy taste follows with the Lime Citrus and Spicy Cinnamon. The Herbal flavors of Spearmint, Thyme and Anise are very easy going and pleasant. Again the Minerality from the nose accompanies on the taste. A very present Pear sweetness along with a splash of Floral round this out. Finish: An inviting medium length finish full of Cinnamon, Cooked Agave, and Mint hang on for this easy sipping experience. TMM--85 Salud!!! Full disclosure, this bottle was supplied by the brand for my review.
