this was one of my go-to sippers back in 2012 -2015-ish. probably need to revisit and adjust my review to my current palate. still think this is a good bang for ur buck
Aroma: Cooked agave, caramel, and vanilla. Taste: A nice blend of the cooked agave and vanilla. Finish: Easy-drinking, smooth finish that accentuates the taste, with a a slight alcohol bite. Overall: Hands down the best bang for your buck añejo out there, a real treat.
Very well made. Balance cooked agave & barrel aging
Don Pilar Anejo This Anejo has a very pleasant nose of sweet cooked agave and buttery caramel. I get some light honey notes, fresh fruit and some light spices from the Virgin American White Oak barrels. I taste creamy cooked agave and peppery barrel spices then some warm honey. There is a nice mouthfeel and some pepper and alcohol tingle on the finish like a nice warm hug. This is a nice Anejo with some depth. I get more on the nose than the pallet but it’s a good sipping Anejo. I’m positive it’s additive free. Go get some! Salud!
Aroma : Wood/oak, caramel, vanilla butter, cooking spices, citrus, agave. It's like sniffing tequila and whiskey at the same time. Taste : Cooked agave, citrus, caramel. Some of bourbon notes here like the caramel, and also oak, vanilla and almond. Finish : Fairly long with vanilla, oak, spice and agave. Medium bodied and many flavors that bear resemblance to bourbon. If you also happen to be a bourbon fan like me, this tequila is a must.
Deep amber color. Loads and caramel and butterscotch on the nose, some vanilla and oak as well and agave too. Slight hit of pepper followed by and hints of fruit and agave... finishes with oak and leather tannins. Short to medium finish, with some lingering heat.
Butterscotch, vanilla, baking spices
Love this juice !! A bit thin on the mouth feel but an awesome fruity , woody , caramel aroma . Not too sweet , not too dry with a bit of citrus , vanilla and nutty flavors . Goes down rather nicely !!
A wonderful aroma and flavor of caramel and oak. This tequila is silky smooth and easy to drink.
Aroma=Apple Cider
out of the full bottle I let it breathe for a few. I noticed the aroma got more bold with a few mins. light oak on the nose, followed by molasses. sweet, but easy. wonderful lazy summer night taste. oak and honey are strong, but not over powering with a sweet lingering finish. Azul Latin Kitchen South Lake Tahoe great menu of tequila $11 bottle full requested champagne glass queso fortido and carnitas
Blind rated. This one has a beautiful aroma, with loads of caramel, oak and dried fruits. Some sweetness and that little mint, which I perceived throughout the samples. On the palate is balanced with a medium mouthfeel. Again Caramel and oak, although less than expected from the aroma and the same goes for a mild sweetness, which for me is a plus in an añejo (I tend to dislike over-oaked and very sweet añejos). This is a well done añejo. It's definitely my favorite one in the line, although I would have liked a bit more of complexity and oiliness. I could drink this one all night.
Strong note of caramel and a slight hint of oak on the nose. The flavor is a lot less sweet than I was expecting. I definitely get a lot of oak but it's not too overpowering. The finish is nice and lingers for quite some time. I wish the flavor was a little more complex (maybe hitting that caramel note more) but overall a good Anejo.
Sweet, peppery with a dry finish
This really works for my palate. I get apples and dried cherries in the nose. More of the same on the body along with vanilla and caramel. I could a longer finish with some spice at the end. Great value at about $35.
-tasted blind- Balanced aromas of agave, oak, vanilla, yeast and light cinnamon with moderate-high alcohol presence. Moderately sweet taste of agave, vanilla. Somewhat hot finish - uniformly vanilla.
Tasted blind Nose - Caramel and spice Taste - Barrel spice and caramel sweetness with some alcohol numbing Finish - Medium length sweet finish
vanilla and gardenia nose, nice. entry is not as sweet as expected, but nice tannic tea. slightly green like chewing on grass, finishes a little bitter.
Rated blind after aeration. Aroma: kind of a green funk (mint, green agave?), agave, chocolate? Flavor: Bourbon and spice. Finish: Dry, tannins, spice. (.57)
Aroma: This isn't driven by Agave, although there,, the presence of the New American Oak is the dominating force behind this Añejo. Oak, Vanilla, Butterscotch, and Caramel show off the long aging in the new barrels. Additional Stone Fruits like Plum and Apricot are also a major part of the nose. As this opens up Citrus and Tropical Fruits immerge. Cinnamon and Barrel Spices also come out. There is also a Buttery Custard the softens this. Taste: Again the Barrel Influences of Oak, Vanilla, Caramel and Butterscotch definitely give off Whiskey like vibes. The slight difference being that there is still a touch of Agave still present. Cinnamon, Black Pepper, and Baking Spices add the Spicy touches too! Citrus and Stone Fruits add a nice sweetness along with a touch of Honey. Finish: The finish runs long with Oak and Spices. The flavors of Don Pilar Añejo resembles a Tequila wrapped in a Whiskey Blanket. There is a kiss of Agave here to remind you that this is still Tequila. But it will definitely appeal to a convert trying to get into Tequila on their new journey. It will also appeal to anyone looking to sit down on a cool evening and sipping something that will continually evolve in glass. The price point around $45-50 makes this a great choice for the collection! AMM--86 Salud!
Aroma: (22) Oak, vanilla, butterscotch , green apple Taste: (24) oak, chocolate, butterscotch, baking spices. Slight hint of agave. Finish: (22) lingering butterscotch oak Overall: (86) a great value (8) at $38 but heavy barrel notes washed away most of the agave.
Nosr is nice. Soft. Vanilla Mouth hits with barrel notes agave medium sense the bourbon Finish nice bit of alcohol Good! whiskey and bourbon guys will like this one well balanced
Interesting turn…asked for Don Fulano Anejo. Was given this by accident…no comparison. Did not want to complain. Slight burn on the end with no viscosity. Had a good nose, but was non existents during sips!
For a $45 price range. Hands down the best bang for your buck especially Anejo wise. Smooth sweet sipper Aroma:cooked agave ,Carmel, barrel aged smell, spice, pepper Taste: Carmel, vanilla, little mineral, pepper, creamy cooked agave, honey.
Juan Contreras is the son of Don Pilar, the guy whose name is on the bottle. He's also the brand ambassador and marketing director. I met him at Zazil for some tequila.

Mild, sweet, caramel, oak, and orange. Short finish. Maybe it’s the Old Fashioned I had right before this, but this tequila tastes just like an old fashioned! Would be perfect in that cocktail. Very mild, goes down easy. Great for newbies and bourbon drinkers.
