“The aromas are juicy. There’s stone fruit, raspberries, hot tamales candy (cinnamon and sweet), buttery caramelized cooked agave, slight tannic note I usually get from a dry red wine and some AO dry barrel spice. There’s excellent depth to the many aromas. I taste the dry barrel spices up front along with cardamom, warm cinnamon and caramelized agave. There’s some nice sweetness from the cooked agave. It’s a dark sweetness like caramelized agave and unfiltered honey. The 94.6 proof helps to deliver a nice aroma and some strength of flavor. The finish is very nice. It’s all the intense flavors that then roll into a spicy vegetal roasted pepper note. ”

Marcado 28 Reposado
“Marcado 28 Tequila Reposado Brovo’s Top Chef winner Michael Voltaggio and 10th-generation distiller Bruno Barba co-founded Marcado 28 Tequila. It’s produced under NOM 1502 - Autentica Tequilera in Tequila, Jalisco, Mexico. This tequila has been aged for 8 months in American Oak ex-bourbon barrels. Considering its age, the color is a light hay color. The aromas I’m getting are dusty hay, a cooked agave note, thin honey, bright citrus (lemon), and a vegetal note; think celery. There’s some minerality, salinity, and a hint of sweetness from the cooked agave and AO barrels. I taste the barrel spice from the American oak, sitting atop the caramelized cooked agave and honey. The vegetal notes and the natural sweetness of the cooked agave balance the minerality. There’s some salinity in the backbone, and the finish starts with that brine and natural sweetness before the vegetal and black pepper spice kick in. Overall, it’s a great Reposado. It has much of the agave character from the blanco, along with some sweetness and spice from 8 months of barrel aging. It is very affordable locally. The bottle art was created by Austin, Texas tattoo artist, El Sando. His years of study and passion for ancient Mayan art and Mesoamerican culture have made him the accomplished artist he is. Bottle Number 6474. ”

Loco Tequila Blanco
“This is a quality blanco tequila made with a blend of 9 blancos. It’s very clean and polished. It’s very traditional. It’s earthy and mineral with some bright citrus notes along with the clean crisp agave. They use estate agaves and shave them tight. This is a polished blanco. The price is on the high side which unfortunately affects the score but if price doesn’t matter then you should definitely try this one. ”

El Ateo Antimateria Extra Añejo
“You should know by now that El Ateo is making quality small batch tequila. I know it’s small batch because I’ve visited the distillery. This XA has aged for 3 years in American Oak barrels and it’s 40% ABV - 80 proof. On the nose it’s sweet cooked agave, barrels spice, caramel and heavy char Crème brûlée. The aromas are sweet and spicy. The flavors are similar to the nose but the palate / mouthfeel is thin. The flavors are pleasant and as full of flavor as a 40% ABV will allow. This is a full flavor sipper but I imagine that a higher proof version would be more interesting. ”

1800 Silver
“This is a NOM 1122 - La Rojeña distillery (Jose Cuervo) product. You most likely recognize its distinctive trapezoidal bottle shape, inspired by the Mayan pyramids. The aromas are interesting. They aren’t traditional scents that are easily recognized. There’s a savory herbal note that’s slightly sweet. It isn’t offensive, but it’s different. It has a sage-like quality. Tequila 1800 Silver undergoes a 15-day maturation in American and French oak barrels before being blended. The body is very thin, water-like. The sweetness hits up front, and then the savory note creeps in, but it’s more muted than the nose. There’s a peppery note that creeps in towards the finish. Overall, it’s an interesting nose and a thin body without a good tequila bite. It’ll work as the alcohol component of a cocktail, but I wouldn’t call it tequila-forward. ”

La Pulga Tequila Blanco 110
“My fellow Texans from Fort Worth bring us this High Proof / Still Strength Blanco, presented at 110 proof - 55% ABV! FYI, High Proof and Still Strength aren’t synonymous, but this tequila is both. #themoreyouknow Crisp agave jumps out of the glass, along with bright celery, white pepper, dry minerals, and some light, earthy mushrooms with a slight vegetal note. The agave is ever-present on the palate. It’s green and bright, and it adds a natural sweetness. The alcohol brings intensity to the minerality and white pepper. The vegetal note is mostly fresh jalapeño, and the alcohol adds intensity to the flavors. This is a bold blanco as a sipper, and it’s a cocktail king due to its bold flavors. 92 - TTR (The Tequila Report)”

Marcado 28 Blanco
“The aromas are pronounced and clean. There’s bright green agave, lemon and lime citrus zest, and some earthy green vegetal notes. The flavors are also bright. The agave is up front, and the citrus follows with some natural sweetness from the cooked agaves. Some white pepper then creeps in right before the finish. The cooked agave sweetness and white pepper make up the classical finish. Overall, this is a quality tequila that can be sipped and used in your tequila cocktails. Retailing around 50 bucks and offered at 40% ABV. The bottle art was created by Austin, Texas, tattoo artist, Billy Baca. She pulled from her Tex-Mex roots when designing this piece. Casa Maestri Reserva de MFM Blanco
“Casa Maestri Reserve de MFM is the house brand for NOM1438 who currently produces for 226 brands. They are a family owned distillery in Jalisco that specializes in private label development, bulk tequila supply and global export solutions. They claim to proudly serve clients in more than 50 countries. They used agave from the Valley and the Highlands and the ferment in stainless steel and they use stainless steel stills. The agave is cooked in Hornos and Autoclaves. There are aromas of bright green agave, crisp celery and some sweet white pepper with some sweet vapors. I taste fresh cut agave, white pepper and some sweetness that’s slightly cloying. Even though the sweetness might be enhanced the overall flavor is rather clean otherwise. It’s an easy Blanco tequila to sip and it would be good in cocktails if you’re looking for something mellow and sweet. ”

Alderete Blanco
“This blanco has a clean and fresh nose. There are aromas of citrus zest, sweet cooked agave, white pepper, and a fresh vegetal note akin to celery and parsley. The cooked agave is up front, which is common among tequilas produced at NOM1414. The cooked agave provides a nice natural sweetness. There’s some citrus that provides a nice zesty quality, and then the white pepper appears. The finish is sweet cooked agae and muted peppers. Overall, this blanco is very clean and balanced. It’s easy to sip but still has some nice flavors.”

Fuck Yes! Tequila Blanco
“Aroma: Cream soda agave, wet limestone and soft ReaLime lime juice. Taste: Fresh agave and white pepper. I suspect glycerin. Finish: The flavors linger. The agave goes from fresh to slightly creamy. The white pepper stays and I do suspect glycerin is added. There’s a slight alcohol tingle and bitterness. Overall: The aromas are a degree or two off from being entirely natural. They aren’t unpleasant but they might have been touched. The flavor is the best part of the experience If I chose to recommend this product the score would be 80 but 1438 just doesn’t do it for me. I don’t find them to be honest with the brands and too many of their tequilas are very similar to each other. ”

Pezuña Blanca Organic Tequila Añejo
“On the nose I’m getting a vegetal pepper aroma with dry oak barrel spices and some wood tannins. It’s earthy and vegetal. I taste earthy cooked agave and the dry barrel spices. The agave tastes caramelized and the barrel spices are dry and earthy. The finish has some sweetness and the barrel spices come in dry with a touch of bitterness Overall the agave sweetness brings a caramel note. The agave is earthy and the barrels are spicy. The wood tannins are dry. This make a caramel, earthy, and spicy Añejo. ”
