I expected this repo to have a lot of the notes of the blanco, but it truly tastes like a different tequila. Not better or worse, just different! This is after my first tasting, letting it sit for roughly 20 minutes in the glass. On the nose: sweet agave, caramel, cinnamon, some earthiness, clove, mint, baking spices, but the agave leads equally On the pallet: the barrel takes center stage but the cooked agave it still there. This is a masterful reposado. Delicious, unique, just one i know I’ll come back to over and over again. Excited to taste it next to the blanco. Update to come.
I’m still biased, but I’m so happy with how this repo turned out. From an incredible Blanco, to spending 7 months in American oak, we get an essence of the Blanco, but so much beautiful flavor from the barrel contributions. A nice natural sweetness, the higher abv brings a ton of complexity, but not overpowering.
