2021 La Ladera | Special tasting with Hugo from Baja Betty’s! The aroma is just fantastic. Lots of tropical fruit flavor along with the cooked agave. The barrel flavor is subtle but perfect. The finish is also incredible. What a treat!

2021 La Ladera | Aroma really good with sweet agave and light barrel notes The taste is completely different. Banana pudding meets bright citrus. Deep and pretty good. Finish is all citrusy sweet roasted pineapple cake.

2020 Cerro Grande | Ocho anejo cerro grande 2020 Sample from Brad Ruppel Agave Swappers It has a bit of heat/spice/fizz not typical of ocho. But this is 54.5 abv

2021 La Mula | Ocho La Mula anejo 2021 Sample from Matt Charney Agave Swappers Nose: has a unique smell, like some kind of sweet italian cookie (biscoti?!) that carries thru on the palate. Finish is a little bitter. Very different for a Tequila Ocho expression. Need to revisit!

2024 Tierras Negras | Light spice and solid roast agave on the nose. I think that this Añejo has more pepper on the palate than some recent releases from Los Alambiques. Some wood/ humidor notes in the mouth as well. Some slight vegetal bitterness on the finish but this is really well executed with the wood notes presented but not dominant. The agave is the show stopper here, full on with some nice tongue buzz provided from the 40% juice. A long fading finish rounds out the experience.

2020 Cerro Grande | Very easy to sip. Agave is retained on the pallet which Ocho is amazing at doing.

2021 La Mula | Great value. Agave, cinnamon and baking spices on the nose. The taste follows with lots of agave and spice that is tasty.

2022 La Cañada | An excellent agave forward anejo. A stark difference between this anejo and the other two I tasted in the flight(Fortaleza & Volans). Far less barrel influence, and the color could easily pass for a Reposado. Cooked agave being the driving note here along with citrus rind, herbs, and flowers. Subtle barrel notes like vanilla and caramel, but the distillate is the star of the show.

2023 San Jerónimo | Tasted at the distillery restaurant. This Añejo maintains agave on the nose. Light barrel spices. Cinnamon, citrus, butterscotch Beautiful palate, again agave is present. Buttery, buttery. Light barrel notes I get caramel and vanilla A bit of alcohol on the on the finish

2023 San Jerónimo | Los Ángeles Tequila Club Single Barrel #8 at 54.5% abv

2023 San Jerónimo | Very light and easy sipper with agave, oak and slight honey on the tongue.

2023 San Jerónimo | Drinks as easy as water. Flavor is light and simple but the finish is incredible.

2023 San Jerónimo | Pretty good stuff! A little more pepper and bite than the reposado. Still some really great flavors for a very light Anejo.

2023 Mesa Colorada | really enjoyed the 2023 mesa Colorado anejo. good balance between the barrels spices and agave. delish!

2021 La Ladera | La Landra is a very nice Añejo sweet nose of agave, sweet fruits, vanilla, caramel and cinnamon. Very light oak. On the palate it is sweet wit cooked agave, some pepper, vanilla, caramel and cinnamon. Very nice mouthfeel and finish.

2021 La Mula | Nice nose if agave, clove, vanilla and caramel. Graham cracker. In the palate, very balanced with agave, caramel and vanilla. Fruity. Nice finish. Would recommend this as it is a very nice Añejo.

2021 La Ladera | Nose: agave cooked / vanilla/ caramel/ earth / cinnamon/ hint of fruit / grapefruit / tea / anise / nutmeg/ chocolate/ maple / hint of cream soda Taste: agave cooked / vanilla / pepper / earth / cinnamon/ banana/ apple/ melon / lime / orange peel / grapefruit / licorice / hay : lemongrass/ tea / basil / nutmeg/ chocolate/ maple / cream soda Finish: clean and smooth very slightly viscous mouthfeel that presents a lingering earthy, pepper, bittersweet finish. This anejo has a lot of flavors that pop out throughout the taste, but the whole experience seems to lack some harmonious blend. It could stand to have some more agave sweetness to add balance or it would need a way to tone down the earthy bitters that are the biggest part of the finish. Overall it’s darn good.

2023 Mesa Colorada | This is a great agave forward anejo with light notes from the barrel coming through to the nose and the palate. A very enjoyable sipper. Nose: cooked agave, oak, vanilla, black pepper, caramel, cinnamon, and citrus. Palate: the nose really carries through to the palate. Cooked agave, oak, vanilla, black pepper, caramel, cinnamon, and citrus. A very good balanced anejo that still has a great presence of cooked agave with light barrel notes.

2022 La Estancia Nose: Wood from the start. Oak, walnut and a little maple. Melds into vanilla cooked agave. Mild pepper, citrus, and dried fruit. Cherry and red fruits. Palate: Silky smooth mouth feel. Slight tingle on the tip of my tongue. Dry oak, cooked agave and gentle vanilla on the front palate. Fruit and citrus come into the mid palate with cherry, plum, tropical fruits and lime. Finish is dry, long and encourages me to take another sip. Absolutely love this pour from Ocho. Fantastic value at $70 with deep beautiful flavor without any additives. Definitely worth trying!
