2025 La Mesa | 2025 La Mesa barrel proof. Light amber in the glass, which is common with Ocho. Aroma of cooked agave, oak, alcohol, citrus, minerals and a hint of vanilla. Flavor of black pepper, cooked agave, alcohol, oak, citrus, minerals and vanilla. A long finish with the higher proof of 50.5%. Purchased in Mexico so better price/value.

2024 Las Raíces | The aroma opens with a mix of cinnamon and black pepper, softened by caramel and lifted by fresh lemon and orange peel. Citrus leads the way into a light floral. On the palate, cooked agave anchors the experience, surrounded by layered baking spices, cinnamon, clove, and pepper, woven together with caramel, chocolate, and honey. Oak and barrel spice provide stability, while salinity and a mint-tinged minerality add contrast and freshness. The finish is lingering, gentle sweetness, warming spice, oak, and a restrained heat that fades into earthiness.

2018 Los Patos | Nice tequila with great aromas of cooked ripped blue agave, green banana, orange peel, herbal tea, minerals, lemon grass, and peach. Palate full of peppermint, chamonte, jasmine flowers, raspberry, avocado cream, hazelnut, rosemary, olives and ripped agave. Finish is sweet, silky but not oily, with peppermint, peach and cream with little white pepper.

2024 Las Raíces | 2024 Las Raices Barrel Proof Nose: The agave leads with a clean, steady presence, and from there the warmer notes slip in - cinnamon and black pepper giving it some lift, while the chocolate nibs add a dry, earthy depth. A flash of orange zest brightens the edges without pulling it off balance. Palate & Mouthfeel: It lands medium thin and a little watery, but it carries its flavors clearly. Agave shows first, joined by a gentle vanilla that softens the spice. Cinnamon and black pepper return with a familiar snap, and the orange note pushes through again before the oak settles in underneath. Finish: Oak and cinnamon linger, but the finish stays light, easing off without much grip. It’s quick, but not abrupt. Final Thoughts: For a barrel proof expression, it sits lighter than expected - and that actually works in its favor. It’s not chasing complexity; instead, it feels intentionally pared back, and that restraint shows a sure hand. Simple in a good way, and genuinely enjoyable.

2024 Las Raíces | Bottle 5440A. Lots of pepper throughout on this one. Has a bit of alcohol on the nose and taste due to the 50.5% ABV. Earthy, citrus and oak with some minerality. Overall very nice.

2024 Las Raíces | Bottle: Bottle No. 39489 L, RLA-044-5, 14/05/2025 Appearance: Pale goldenrod Nose: Cooked agave, honey, butterscotch, vanilla, citrus, blood orange, lemon, melon, dried fruit, vegetal, freshly cut grass, oak, black pepper, baking spice, cinnamon, herbal, spearmint, alcohol, dry earth, and minerality…sweet and fruity Palate: Cooked agave, treacle, dried fruit, dried apricot, dates, toffee, white pepper, oak, vanilla, crème brûlée, baking spice, allspice, cinnamon, anise, dry earth, minerality, alcohol, toasted nuts, vegetal, and freshly cut grass…a great balance of sweet and bitter notes Finish: Oak, molasses, baking spices, and toasted nuts…short to medium length with a medium viscosity Overall: This particular reposado is kind of a do-it-all spirit. There’s enough complexity to keep the connoisseur interested from start to finish, but it’s light enough to not overwhelm a novice palate. There’s enough agave to please the blanco aficionado, but enough barrel influence to satisfy a lover of aged spirits. For the $42 I paid, I couldn’t be happier (or, more likely to buy another bottle).

2024 Las Raíces | Barrel proof Las Raices Reposado @50.5% is not a single barrel rather a blended batch with little dilution to the dump of casks used. Bottle 2010A is super spicy from the elevated ABV and has a great long lasting finish. Be sure to warm up the mouth before seriously sipping this as it might otherwise leave scorch marks on your tongue. After the palate settles down this presents some great roast agave taste and the familiar Ocho agave creme brulee profile, caralmelized vegetal notes with natural sweetness with added barrel spice and that long lasting finish. Good Stuff

2024 Las Raíces | Aroma: 21 Nice depth and evolution. Herbal notes of grass, asparagus, and mint punch through the forefront. Sweet cooked agave soon follows with mild vanilla. Finally a slight blast of lemon citrus brings up the rear. Overall, it’s very pleasant. Palate: 25 Medium viscous mouth feel. Slightly heavy feel. Palate is more spicy than the aroma suggested. Lots of pepper with gentle citrus. The oak and vanilla really start to pop the longer it opens up. This steers closer to a blanco than an anejo. Not as much barrel influence as I would have hoped for. That is not say it’s not good, because it is definitely a quality pour. Finish: 21 While the bulk of the flavor dissipates within 30 seconds, the oak and vanilla lingers in the back of my tongue for several minutes. Value: 7 $45 in New Hampshire. Great value for a quality additive free repo from a proven brand.

2024 Mirandillas | One of the best tequilas I’ve had compared to 40+ others. The agave, caramel, cinnamon, spicy oak aromas and flavors are front and center. The price of this reposado is excellent for the money in relation to other brands’ reposados. This will likely always be an entry level offering to show people what tequila truly can be.

2024 Mirandillas | I really like the Plata version. The barrel aging has tamed it a little too much. Good flavors in aromas but not a lot of action.

2022 La Estancia | Nose: sweet agave / pepper/ caramel/ earth / oak / banana/ grapefruit/ lemongrass/ hay/ almond / Taste: agave cooked sweet / pepper/ vanilla & caramel/ earth / herbal / salt-brine / lime / peppermint / tea / tobacco/ hint of chocolate Finish: very low viscosity leaving a clean velvety mouthfeel that dissipates quickly only to leave a slight bitterness This reposado has a lot going for it until the bitter end, literally. I seem to notice this on single field expressions that have a terroir emphasis. There’s a lot of earthiness to this repo that is ok on my palate, but when left with a bitter finish it makes this a less enjoyable experience for me.
