Very strong barrel nose. Barrel hits you hard. No agave found here on the palate. Not bad but doesn’t impress me
Nose- caramel, wood, dried fruit(cherries) Palette- vanilla, caramel, cherry, cooked agave Finish- great cooked agave with light lingering pepper. Sweet notes and great mouth feel
Incredible balance. The sweetness + wood is so harmonious on this it’s extraordinary. Pricey, but a very memorable bottle.
I expected more. I enjoyed the blanco more.
Nose smells of oak with a refined alcohol burn, vanilla and maybe some cinnamon consistent with other Añejo- anejos from 1146. I would say this one shines a bit less than the others I've had from 1146 like Artenom and Tears
Cosecha 2010 42% ABV Nose: Faint oakiness. Freshly whittled cedar shavings. A touch of vanilla. Enticing potpourri of baking spices and candied citrus peel. Ripe berries and cherry fruitiness. Varied sweet dried fruit. Floral. A walk along a dusty country road aroma. Flavor: Pepper heat swathed in silky sweetness. Intense fruit notes and savory salinity performing a high wire balancing act. Medium body. The agave has not been masked by the 7 year, intricate barreling. It remains fresh and bright
Tasted at Distillery
my rating is based on the first lote... the 7yr is my favorite of the fuenteseca expressions. had my first flight of fuenteseca at cantina mayahuel in San Diego 2014? the 7yr was the best of all, in my opinion, and compared to the rest of the line, best value. i really enjoyed it. looked at my old notes, says "tears-like" that was the first lote. it was soooo good!
This is one of the best aged tequilas I’ve ever had, so many layers and influences going on, it’s stunning. If you find yourself in a situation where you can buy a bottle, don’t hesitate, it’s elite.
Didn’t enjoy the finish as much, too much black pepper. Will revisit later… reminds me a lot of Artenom 1146… it’s good but the price doesn’t justify
Surpirisingly similar to the blanco (in a good way). Given its 7 year age statement I thought this would be an oak bomb, it isn’t. Would recommend for fans of Fuenteseca that like the layers of ageing but loses points due to value.
Oak, cooked agave, vanilla, bell pepper, grapes.
Strong heavy tequila. With this one I just realize I love French Oak Barrels. Every tequila I had so far that is finish in a french oak barrel is my favorite in the Añejo department. Natural sweetness with a mature finish. Me like!!
LOTE FS01 CCT11 (last 5 characters are hard to read) 42% ABV AAG 2142 Initial nasal impact is warming with a slight prickle. Aroma leads with cedar, cooked agave, baking spice, late season concord grape vineyard. Absolute buttery mouthfeel with sufficient alcohol. Wow, even after 7 years of aging, the sweet caramelized cooked agave still shines. The French oak, American oak and wine barrel notes are all easily spotted. Chinese 5 spice and homemade concord grape jelly hit on the retro nasal. Harmoniously balanced long finish. It is beautiful. Found this for about $155
Silky and rich, but not over-oaked. Layers of dried fruit, old wood, and toasted vanilla. A good amount of cooked agave sweetness on the nose and palette. A great sipper.
Interesting, I tasted through the whole line all the way to the 21yr. I felt the 7yr old over delivered compared to the rest of the line strictly on price to value. Full bodied yet elegant. Good finish
Cooked agave, carmel, vanilla, citrus
65th birthday bottle opened on 03/24/18. Quite difficult to find now as this released in 2012. This is an interesting blend of ultra aged tequilas and is quite spicy with oak and agave as well as pepper and cardamom.
UPDATED 12/30/2018: This definitely has the distinctive Fuenteseca aroma - heavy oak with some fruity sweetness. The flavor begins with a nice fruit/caramel sweetness that is soon followed by a spiciness that is more cinnamon/nutmeg/clove than pepper. There is some real complexity here. A nice little bitterness and tannic drying at the finish. I really like this tequila. Some of the older Fuenteseca agings just have too much barrel for me. This one is a great representation of what the barrel can do. Especially when the barrel isn't overdone. 12/30/2016 - 4th Annual Xmas XA tasting. 12/24/2018 - 6th Annual Xmas XA tasting 2010 7 Year [ - Aroma is lighter with much less barrel. Sweet butterscotch and fruit are dominant in the aroma. Flavor is more complex than the 2005 with a great combination of sweetness and spice. Unfortunately, the finish is short and disappears quickly.
Aroma: Very oak heavy on the aroma with hints of caramel and vanilla. There is also a slight bit of mint and cinnamon. Flavor: Much like the aroma, it is very oak heavy. There's a bit of cinnamon and caramel in the flavor but pretty masked by the oak. Finish: Very mellow. Nothing too over the top and in fact I wish it had a bit more. Still solid though.
High-Proof Blanco Showcase – Opening Thoughts Tonight’s flight is all about pushing the boundaries of what a blanco can be. On the table are five expressions that each take a different path to showcasing agave—whether through higher proof, unique fermentation, extended resting, or singular terroir. Rather than searching for the biggest proof or the boldest flavors, I’m looking for the tequila that best balances intensity with elegance while still letting the agave remain the star. Tonight’s lineup: Siempre Exclusivo Vivo Cazcanes Nuestras Raices Fuenteseca Cosecha 2018 Fuenteseca Cosecha 2020 Fuenteseca Reserva Extra Añejo 7 Year (the grand finale) As always, I’ll be evaluating each pour on its own merits before comparing them side by side. I’m looking for the aromas that pull me in, the texture that coats the palate, the complexity that develops with each sip, and the finish that keeps me reaching for another taste. By the end of the night, I hope to answer one simple question: Which of these bottles truly tells the most compelling agave story? Cheers! Let’s see where this flight takes us. Fuenteseca Reserva Extra Añejo 7 Year The nose immediately brings damp barrel aromas layered with hints of bourbon sweetness and well-worn leather. It suggests a heavily aged spirit, but there is still an underlying elegance waiting to be discovered. On the palate, rich notes of tobacco, leather, and pepper take center stage. The texture remains thick and full-bodied while a gentle drying sensation reminds you of the extended barrel aging. Despite its age, the tequila never loses its balance. The finish is where this expression truly shines. Rather than becoming an overpowering oak-forward tequila, it evokes the atmosphere of a classic cigar lounge with worn leather chairs, lingering spice, and quiet refinement. Warm baking spices continue to develop long after the sip, creating a finish that is rich, inviting, and remarkably composed. What impressed me most was what this tequila wasn’t. Despite my initial concern from the nose, it never became a bourbon bomb. Instead, it maintained its identity while allowing the barrel to add depth, character, and elegance without overwhelming the spirit. Score: 91/100
Aroma is all cask, very bourbon-like Flavor has a lot of agave and cask flavor, truly fantastic, a little overpriced though.
Knocked on value, someone I was with said “holy fuck that’s good” so there.
The aroma profiles on this are beautiful hints of caramel, cooked agave and almost like roasted almonds. The viscosity is phenomenal on this. It stays with you in a very good way, holding all those beautiful notes. I taste cooked agave, burnt caramel, honey, almond, slight citrus, blended beautifully with oaky notes. The wood/oaky notes are not overpowering. It's a beautiful balance

2014 7 year 41.7%. Amazing fruit and oak nose. Stone fruit, cinnamon, agave, oak, caramel, citrus flavors. Love it. SYC 2026
