“Aroma is clean and complex enough to be interesting and is where this one shines. Flavor is respectable, a bit metallic, but doesn’t do the aroma justice. Finish is lacking as it sits a little bitter. Plenty of alcohol on the finish which isn’t usually a liability at all, but in this case serves to enhance some of the metallic bitterness, so this weighs in at “fair” for finish. Has some interesting tasting notes, enough to make this a fun experience, but nothing mind blowing.”

“Aroma is excellent if tasted in a snifter glass. Good balance of light smoke, oak and a little agave. Taste is very good but short of excellent. More agave on the palette than in the nose. Finish outperforms the taste as it goes down with just the right amount of bite, stays fairly long, and doesn’t leave you with any dry mouth tannin feel. Overall the nose is where this one shines though it’s a solid experience throughout. Seems cut from a much different cloth than the sweeter and oakier Dobel Añejo.”

“Aroma is the strongest point here, taste is also fantastic, but struggles a bit on the finish compared to the rest of the experience. There is a great deal of oak throughout, but on the finish the oak becomes a bit dry, alcoholic, tannic and slightly more bitter than I’d prefer, and it tends to linger like that for a while. Nose is lovely…I could sit and sniff this one for hours. Strong oak and maybe even an old, rolled, unlit cigar type of tobacco undertone, and sweet caramel overtone. Flavor is wonderful and is where the oak really punches you in the face. Very little sweetness on the palate compared to the nose, as there is more of a cinnamon and baking spices presence that takes over. Only taste complaint is that it does lack a bit of body and mouthfeel compared to some other premium tequilas I’ve had. Granted, I’m not sophisticated enough to know whether I’m comparing this to tequilas with additives or not, so perhaps others I’ve had are “cheating” somewhat on that point, but I just feel it’s a bit thin on the palate. I detect zero agave here as it has been fully conquered by the oak and aging. ”

“Lots of alcohol, bites you a bit too much on the nose, taste and especially the finish. Has good flavor and aroma but the extra alcohol of the 100 proof mutes what may have otherwise been a much better tequila. Also doesn’t have the color and depth of almost añejos, drinks more like a repo. Has a bit of sediment in it, which I actually appreciated. I feel like this would make some killer party margs, and with a little extra booze, may be good to slip into the drink of that special someone in your life. ”

“I’ve had quite a bit of tequila, and dozens of $100-$200 varieties, but this is my absolute favorite. It is NOT a traditional taste or nose at all, so it’s not surprising that this isn’t for everyone. It’s entirely unique. The defining characteristic is the clay pot aging which really comes through in the earthy aroma and aftertaste. Yet it still manages to capture a fair contribution of pineapple, pear and even strawberry. There is nothing else like it. There is a crisp yet savory quality to it, and with just a touch of sweetness. Only reason it’s not an all-out 100 rating for me is there is a bit of an alcohol and dryness on the finish once it sits there for a minute, which isn’t really for me. Outside of that, top marks across the board. Also closely rivaled by the Komos añejo cristalino which exhibits similar qualities. ”

“Really not a bad experience, and certainly outperforms for the $. Good on the nose but a lot of alcohol present in the flavor that gets a bit stronger as the finish lingers, and does take over the other tastes. Still a fair bit of agave present and some light sweetness. I wouldn’t relegate this to the exclusively mixer category by any means. Pair it with some moderately spicy food and it’s fairly enjoyable. Nom 1559.”

“While this one may be a bit trendy, it is actually a great drinker. Aroma is very light and clean, especially compared to the deep body the flavor has. Flavor is quite good, but you have to be in the right mood and drink after dinner due to the strong syrupy sweetness of this one. Think ripe bananas. That said, the finish is actually too sweet, and the longer it lingers, the more syrupy it tastes. Actually makes for a great beginner’s tequila because of that, however, and was one of the tequilas that got me turned on to the whole ultra premium world. ”
