Nose: Earthy cooked agave jumps out first, followed by bright citrus and a subtle hint of smoke. There’s a mineral backbone that hints at limestone and the terroir of the region. Palate: The flavor opens with orange and fresh orange peel layered over sweet agave. Mid-palate brings limestone minerality and earthy tones with a light smokiness that adds complexity without overpowering the agave. Finish: Long and satisfying with a nice, warming heat. Cooked agave, limestone minerality, grassy notes, and lingering orange citrus carry through the finish. Overall: This one really surprised me. It’s earthy, mineral-driven, and citrus-forward with just a whisper of smoke that adds character without dominating the profile.

OK… I didn’t want to like this one. But I’m still pretty thrilled about this brand. Different production produces some fun results. Still has that burned agave flavor, but there’s some extra tropical and sweet going on that’s pretty scrumptious! Great overall. Tasted in Tequila behind the church.

Smoke, citrus, agave, lime, plum, a sour top note with pitted fruit and spice (nutmeg?) aromas make this the closest thing to a “pechuga” mezcal that I’ve tried. The flavor has a ton of agave and the finish lasts for a LONG time. This is a product the bridges the gap between tequila and mezcal, so if you’re looking for something neutral, this ain’t it. Otherwise, get ready for an adventure that will make you think twice about what an agave spirit is all about.

Super smokey and fruity lots of orange on the palet along with a nice minerality. A solid Tequila with a different flavor profile.

Love this one, my favorite of the lineup! It’s still got a touch of smoke from the direct flame roasting and does approach more like a mezcal than a tequila, so be prepared. But it’s not too smoky or funky, it’s a fruity earthy high proof that sips more like a 45-48% than the 55% abv it is. Really unique and delicious.

I appreciate this for what it is. I'm a traditional blanco tequila lover and not a huge fan of mezcal. this expression is a bit more smokey than i prefer. i liked the finish best, then nose, then palate

Vessel: Glencairn Nose: Mango, Plum, Smoke, Raisin, Citrus, Jicama Mouthfeel: Light- Bodied Palate: Smoke, Stonefruit (Peach?), Licorice Finish: Smoke, Hay, Mango, Licorice Very special batch here. Amatitena has always had a certain smokey complexity to it, but this one has more fruity notes. This one starts on fruit, smoke and ends on fruit and licorice.

Nose: This nose is right down my lane. Agave! Plum, fruits, sweet banana, earth, and a hint of smoke. (Thank you!) Palate: All I could hope is the palate tasted like the aromas. This did not disappoint. Explosion of agave, orange, black pepper with a nice amount of smoke. This is by far one of the best blancos I’ve had in 2024! Finish: Cheeks get some heat with a long finish of pepper and agave.

Tasted at “Mexico In A Bottle” S.F. 2024 The taste and smell swells with smoke and distinctly potent fermented fruit. Not a tanginess of fruit but warmth reminiscent of a baked pie or a warmed mango/plum cider. If you’ve ever enjoyed gnawing on the seed of a warm Mango, as I have, or enjoyed Mamey or an overripe Plum. You’ll enjoy this combined with cooked Agave. I need two bottles.

This is my second expression of Amatitena. The first one was the Origen. It is also a High Proof. On the nose, the direct flame cooking is apparent (Smokey). It is earthy and citrusy. For a 110, the alcohol is light on the nose. I get leather and light tobacco. The palate has a nice cooked agave taste. I get the smokiness. Nice citrus flavors like orange along with minerality and earthiness. Really like the finish. Long last and a great ABV influence makes this tequila pop. This is a mezcal-like tequila. If you aren’t a fan of smokiness, this probably isn’t for you. I really like it.

Fruity, orange citrus, creamy, earthy, such an awesome array of aroma ! Well done Amatitena, great balance, beautiful nose & same notes on the pallet as the nose. This is a winner and id buy multiples if you see it.

Aroma: the initial crack definitely reminded me of some mezcals I’ve sampled i.e. some smoke (but not overwhelmingly so), higher ABV, and agave. Once I let it breathe for a bit, I picked up some slight fruity notes, light brine, and some citrus zest. Taste: mezcal drinkers will like this. It matches the aroma very well. I suspect it will open up even more in a few days. If I had to simplify it, I would describe it as a slightly sweet mezcal. Finish: lingers for a while, and it’s not the usual peppery aftertaste I’m used to from tequilas, which I really appreciate for a change of pace. Overall: I really like it. I believe it’s a special yearly release, and if so, I’d be inclined to pick up each year’s offering.

no idea what this costs. I’ve had this at a bar a few times and it’s totally phenomenal. I’m not usually a reposado drinker but this here is the one

Agave swap Nose: slight smoke, earth, citrus, tropical fruit Taste: smoke, tropical fruit, earthy Finish: smoke, plum, tropical fruit, earthy That taste of when you are fanning a fire to get it started and the smoke taste in your mouth. Then the fruit jumps through on the finish and marries with the smoke in a truly unique way.

Tastes of: smokey cooked vegetal agave, earthy, a bit mineral, and fruity with mango, a hint of watermelon plus something I can't quite place. Overall this is very flavorful and unique. I really like this. At first the nose was a bit hot, but otherwise I have no complaints.

Bottle 1060/2262. Tried at Ano Del Gallo. Smoke, agave, fruits on the nose. Nice light smoke and agave forward. Nice hint of fruit with a touch of heat on the finish.

If I was blind tasting this I would have thought this was a mezcal, and that’s why the rating may be lower than most. Super char alcohol volume flavors kind of overpower the additional fruit flavors but I think the mangos added some of that burn on the end of the palate which is where I get the mango to come forward. Definitely something you should try because it only gets better by the amount of time the bottle has been opened. One of those bottles that is reinventing the tequila space

Nose: Smokiness, tobacco, cooked agave, pepper, fruit, citrus, light rubber, and earthy! Palate: Smokiness, followed by a good amount of fruitiness! Tropical and citrusy! Cooked agave is definitely present, but there’s a lot of flavors going on here! There is also, leather, tobacco, rubber, pepper, and mineral! Finish: medium, warm. Overall, great! Better than Origen! But there are similarities! Definitely worth a try!

Nose: rich, earthy aroma with strong agave notes and subtle hints of vanilla and citrus. Palate: smooth, well-rounded flavor profile with roasted—smokey agave, light oak, and a touch of peppery spice. The finish is clean with a warm, lingering aftertaste.
