“Tasting notes- neat Nose: wood, vanilla, butterscotch Taste: peppery, vegetal, bit of astringency on the palate Finish: bright Rocks: Nose: oak, vanilla, cream, butterscotch Taste: agave, pepper, vanilla, creamy Finish: pretty smooth, lingers with a bit of sweetness This has been described as an Añejo which still has some youthful vibrancy. It seem a have the rounded edges, a bit of oak, vanilla, etc. of an Añejo but some of the pepper, a bite of bite, vegetal and agave notes of a joven or young reposado. It also seems to be made in a fairly traditional way, tahoma, roller-mill, open vat fermentation on fibers, copper still distillation, which seems to bring a bit of authenticity to the party. Not the smoothest, sweetest, oakiest, or most interesting Añejo on my bar, but it has a place ”

“Crystal extra Añejo. It’s ok. Currently the only crystal extra Añejo on my bar. Notes of wood, tabaco and pepper which one would find in an extra Añejo. A bit more astringent than others EA’s I’ve tried. Not my number one go to, but the bottle was a gift and I’ll enjoy it.”

“Tasting straight first: a bit of alcohol on the nose. Spicy/pepper then a bit of floral and warmth from the wood. On a single cube: a bit less alcohol. Still a spicy/peppery bite. I’ve had many better and many worse reposados for sipping. 3.5 stars not a super fan especially for the price. Overrated. ”

“Tasted neat: Could be my non-standard tasting glass (wine glass is what I have handy). Nose was pretty strong ETOH. Taste seems spicy almost peppery and sharper. (A significant departure from the somewhat smoother “toasted marshmallow” notes of the CA Reposado. After about 5 mins. The ETOH nose has drawn off. On the rocks: the nose seems almost like a vanilla custard. It’s ok but not it won’t find a place on my bar among my añejos. A bit of a disappointing experience as I have almost always have their good (all be it a bit more unusual) in reposado on my bar. I will however give it a second chance with a better tasting vessel, the brand deserves that. —- Follow-up tasting - better, more of a burned marshmallow taste note. An ok Añejo, I’d drink it again. -B”

“I know the crystal process (stripping the color) from the Añejo is used, but missed the presence of the wood. It tasted fine, but overpriced in my opinion. I prefer their extra Añejo and Añejo to their crystal.”
