The highest end bottles of agave spirit are best enjoyed on their own. Here’s a look at some of the world’s best sipping tequilas.
Until recently, we hadn’t cared much for reposado — tequila that has been aged in oak barrels from 2 to 12 months. It seems too middle-of-the-road: like blanco (no barrel aging) without the bite, añejo (aged for longer than a year) without the flavor. But
Aroma, nose was hit immediately with agave, barrel oak, pepper, vanilla, some citrus, earth, and caramel sweetness. Palate, my initial sip was cooked agave, black pepper, and cinnamon, which gave an oily mouth feel warming throughout the palate with a slight tingle on the tongue. Finish, long and warm with agave and notes of cinnamon, pepper resting on the palate leaving a well balanced finish of warmth and spice. Overall, this Repo is a great example of Don Felipe's craftsmanship with the barrel touches and creating this rich texture of spices and balanced with warmth. I would highly recommend this tequila
