“2012 CABRITO (OldSkol) This doesn’t have a big aroma but the taste and complexity makes up for the lack of aroma. The forefront of taste is pure cooked agave, the old sweetness that I get from the White label Centinela. Hints of white pepper and herbal notes. I could sip on this every day. The tequila on the palate is warming with that reminiscent oily texture. Medium finish but leaves you wanting to dive back in for another sip…. I have a 2004 that I might need to do a blind taste side-by-side!”

“This one surprised me at first with the aroma of vibrant orange but my second tasting it seems to disappear. Nose: The first aroma I got when I first tried this was Orange blossom and citrus the agave was present but hidden and somestone fruit notes but the following day it was completely different with lite orange citrus but fresh agave was forefront and pepper with some earthy notes. Taste: Agave subtle vanilla not overpowering and pepper, citrus and baking spices. Finish: The finish is tannic leaving a dryness on the palate from the barrel notesthat leads to the finish.”

“ Batch 2 Nose: Cooked agave and stone fruit notes fruit, with lite citrus. Taste: like the cooked agave, reminiscent of tasting pieces often served at distilleries during tours. Some subtle caramel and vanilla but not overpowering. Finish: A soft finish that leaves an oily finish with a bit of tannins from oak that lends to a medium finish.”

“First I get Alcohol with notes of white pepper and citrus but the alcohol dissipates rather quickly and it opens up nicely. Taste of agave, pepper with mineral notes and citrus, cinnamon and clove. Finish is medium to long, the agave lingers with some heat. Good balance of flavors!”

“Nose. Cooked agave, pepper and citrus. Taste. Cooked agave, Pepper some Citrus with some Earthiness that shows off the terroir. Finish. Nice medium finish that lingers with the agave and pepper. A fair price for a mixer and casual sipper.”

“Received a sample from Keith at Agave Swappers. Tasting in a large bowl vessel with Glencairn like chimney. This is my favorite tasting glass because it gives the tequila ample room in the base to open quickly and rises to the chimney that closes all the aromatics tightly at the rim. Nose: First I get lots of citrus, a light cooked agave, some alcohol. I was expecting more alcohol but I’m not and I like that, then some pepper and mineral earthy herbal notes! Taste: First thing is cooked agave, a light oily taste that adds to the viscosity. Some heat and white pepper then citrus and a brininess kick in-and then nice herbal notes to round out the blanco. Finish: The finish is medium to log with lingering sweet cooked agave and white pepper that the oiliness of the tequila allows for coating the palate… Overall this is a very enjoyable blanco that delivers!”

“If you happen to find one of these don’t pass it up .. This is from NOM1488 and is so good The nose is earthy and herbal with cooked agave and citrus notes. Taste is very similar to the aroma with sweet agave forward and earthy herbal notes balanced out with white pepper and citrus. Finish is medium to long and the sweetness of the agave just doesn’t want to leave the palate! Not produced any more but if you like OldSkol tequilas you will really appreciate this one ”

“The first notes are agave and a bit of vanilla with oak and some pepper and cloves. The taste is oak, vanilla, cooked agave, black pepper and some earthiness. Has a nice finish but doesn’t linger long with some vegetal and vanilla, and oak tannins that linger the longest. Overall: 83 because it has a nice balance of agave with some interesting barrel notes!”

“CULTURA 100 Blanco 45%ABV Samples provided by Agave Swappers Matt Cavanaugh and Christine Hansen Barchasch. Nose: Alcohol is the first thing rising from the chimney of the glass then cooked agave and white pepper notes with some citrus. In all honesty for me the ABV is hiding a lot of the prominent aroma I normally get, they are there but it has to open up for 30 to 45 minutes before it really comes out of hiding! Taste: the palate, sweet cooked agave. Not overly sweet but a balanced sweet, reminiscent of tasting the cooked agave pieces you get at the distillery. The citrus comes through but is very light. It has an earthy and slight herbal note with a touch of white pepper. The mouthfeel is quite pleasant and the tequila seems to coat palate with a nice warming heat. This changes quite a bit as it sits and opens up. Finish: The finish is balanced and has a long finish.”

“Nose is fruity and floral like the agave notes are hidden but as it opens up the cooked agave begins to show more and some of the fruit notes fade. On the palate the sweetness of cooked agave comes through with caramel and vanilla. Oak is present and the tannins are a bit astringent. Medium to long finish.”

“Batch 001 | Ensueno repo carribean rum batch 1 Sample from Robert Stern (Agave Swap) Nose: citrus, cooked agave, vanilla, oak. Taste: cooked agave sweetness and vanillin, oak tannins with notes is fruit and white pepper. Finish: white pepper, slight vanilla and oak. Lots of barrel influence. Medium finish? I feel like this would have been more to my liking as an Anejo.”

“I was able to taste this from a sample I received and I think I’m going to have to hunt one down There is no denying this one oof Chava’s masterpieces. The nose is amazing once it settles in as the alcohol is the first notes coming from the Riedels lip followed by cooked agave and soft notes of caramel, vanillin and holiday spices. Tasting comes with a nice agave sweetness that shows off the French Oak. Very warming on the palette and the back of the throat. Love the spice notes of cinnamon, nutmeg and clove. Ha a soft touch that lingers for a medium to long finish. He had me at French Oak!!!”

“At first the alcohol hides the agave but it doesn’t take long to settle down and open up. This Blanco carries the smell and taste from the Madera. A bit lighter on the agave than I expected but a nice citrus, white pepper, clove and cinnamon. The cooked agave brings out some light notes of caramel and vanillin but you have to search for it. A bit hot on first taste but then the heat fades as my palate gets used to it, has a nice medium finish with a little bittersweet tannin. Really enjoying this one!”

“Guillermo knocked this one out of the park! This has an incredible nose of OldSkol Blanco’s with cooked agave rising from the Riedel. And not just cooked agave, but that sweet spicy smell you get when they open the doors of the horno. The walls of the Riedel hold the tequila then it tears and runs legs the full length of the glass. The viscosity is thick and the taste reminds me of taste the cooked agave at the distillery. The smell and taste are reminiscent of the older single digit lotes. The viscosity causes all the flavors to linger on the palate, creamy notes of agave with a natural sweetness that balances out the spice with white pepper cloves and a bit of an earthiness that compliments the spice with a touch of bittersweet notes. Slight warmth that rest on each side of the tongue and the back of the throat. Long, long finish that calls for another sip…… Fantastic Blanco ”

“NOM 1480 This has a brilliant glimmer in the Riedel with light viscosity. The leg are there but the run fast. Has I bit of a funk on the nose, lite malolactic citrus and agave notes. The taste is agave and citrus of lemon and lime zest. This is a mildly sweet cooked agave with citrus and white pepper and earthy flavors, vegetal or grassy undertones.”

“I’m just guessing but this is probably aged longer than most Reposado’s. I have a couple and have been looking forward to opening one. Golden Straw and the nose is Cooked agave, white pepper, citrus, baking spices, vanillin and orange. Mouthfill is oily/viscous, warming the palate with white pepper, caramel and cinnamon. Some herbal notes and a medium to long finish. I’m going to miss this one when it’s gone ”

“This Lot 100 has a unique profile highlighting highlands agave, a buttery and oily mouthfeel, and flavors of baking spices, cinnamon, and a hint of Anise that I find in a lot of the OldSkol 1079’s. Beautiful agave crisp citrus notes and very complex, and well-balanced with med to long finish, making it suitable for sipping neat or enjoying in artisanal cocktails. This is distilled to 80 proof without any added water which allows the agave to be so prominent.”

“This wasn’t on of my favorite. I felt it was under-aged and the profile didn’t have time to finish and truly bring out all the characters I wanted from the Widow Jane barrel. I like a Reposado that brings more balance from the barrel to the Agave ”
