“Are my samples “flat”? Starting to wonder. The Palo and La Loma are just kinda missing a spark. So was my Rum Barrel Ensueno batch 2. Solid but decidedly unspectacular. Vegetal. Low mineral. What’s missing here is the finish on any of these.”
More info →“Would be interested to drink through a couple more. The stout barrel just really mutes all the best parts of the agave. I love the creativity and effort. Lots of chocolate, which my son picked out on the nose and sip. I’d run a glass or 2 back just to dabble further but I don’t think it would change overall for me.”

“Simply fantastic. Would love to find that batch but I’m assuming the Oscar’s doesn’t miss as they spin forward. Beautiful profile.”

Esquisito Blanco
“Thought from the nose we were heading down the Zumbador, Manuscrito, Ensueno cinnamon and basking spice rabbit hole. Will update my notes but there is a mineral/cement note that I wasn’t expecting with the aroma. I do enjoy it. Not sure about the packaging but at $55 it’s way more in line than what is listed as a $150 repo. Interesting bottle that I would like to revisit. Is it possible that this is the Tahona blanco? Got it in a swap and only says Exquisito. ”
More info →“Really opened up and became fuller, rounder as it sat. Heavy barrel at first that really gave way to a rich agave, caramel, vanilla sipper. Just top level juice. Special bottle just outside of my spending range. Would make a great gift for sure.”

Lost Lore Valley Blanco
“Would be higher but for the $70 tag”

Lost Lore Tequila Reposado
“2 oz sample. Need to try to verify that it wasn’t one of their many 1 offs and SIB. I think I might still have their stock repo to compare. Regardless it felt like a higher proof. But what was in the glass was outrageously good. Sweet baking spice. Barrel. Tequila. Kinda reminded me of the HP Manuscrito Chp 4”

“Wanna come back with a cleaner nose and palate. But I like it. Barrel but tequila. Underrated brand.”

“Tasty. Little floral note that I’m not sure about. Simply cannot get behind 100 jovens”

“Mosto…Meet Zumbador. Zumbador….meet Mosto. Great juice. Couple points behind because of the cost comparison.”

Cascahuín Plata 48%
“Mint. Pepper. Grass. Veggies. Enjoyable. Very much so. Will reevaluate and rate again with a full bottle. Enjoy the subtle heat provided by the HP. Worth the hype.”

Dos Angeles Caídos Blanco High Proof
“Nice blend of veggie/minetal 1579 with a little cinnamon backbone. I’m also kinda a Stan for Jimmy Sauza. Definitely a bottle to buy for me.”

Prolijo Tequila Blanco
“Light and easy drinking. Mineral. Faint pepper. Veggies. It’s kind of the antithesis of my preferred profile, but I like it for being that difference. For me it’s a $40 bottle. Getting to $50 and I’m probably looking elsewhere.”

Tequila Tromba Reposado
“Thin nose meets thin finish. Clean barrel and light caramel. Agave is there. Would do better with a richer, more full bodied finish. More viscosity. At $42 I’d have no problem buying and pouring.”

El Ateo Reposado Ultra Premium
“Definitely wasn’t my favorite. Want to try again. There was something about the finish that was off. Almost perfumy. Don’t think it can be the dish detergent. It’s the thing that kinda makes it not all that great. Everything else is pretty solid.”
